An just a couple minutes from Richard Petty's old place in Levelcross. And some of the best local honey I've had is from the RGS.

I think King Richard is from Level Cross in Randolph County, near Asheboro. That's where he lives and where his museum is located. I could sure be mistaken, though. My wife reminds me of that often.:D

Would you call my wife and let her know?:D She'll tell you it was a lucky guess. Seriously, there are two Level Crosses in NC and I didn't know that until now.

    Thanks!

New to the forum here. I live in eastern NC, New Bern area. Love Brevard and pisgah NF area. My son and I are planning on doing a 3-4 day trip this spring up through that area. Plan on camping along the Davison river. Doing a little fishing. Hope to ride some of the forest service roads through that area. Any advice or trail suggestions or anyone interested in showing us around that area would be welcomed and greatly appreciated!

You'll be near some very good gravel roads... Headwaters (475) on the west side of 276 goes around Looking Glass Rock and Yellow Gap Rd... IMG_1278.JPG
will take you east to Mills River. On the east side of N. Mills River Rec Area, there is a Forest Rd that goes north towards the BRP and you can make a nice loop back to 276.

One more warning. The leaf peeper season is about over with the rain, but watch for traffic on 276 and the BRP.

That’s why the dirt roads are great, even so, an occasional car comes the other way.

Thank you for the heads up. I think my son and I may try to do one last weekend trip in November up that way and camp our one night before heading back home. It’s a 6 hour ride from home to Brevard. We may just settle on Boone blowing rock area this trip then do a week long trip in the spring to Brevard.

Square root. Downtown Brevard! Marcos is great too.

My trips of a day or two are over around robbinsville. I like Iron Horse MC Lodge.

I live here, you are looking basically up Cove Creek Rd into Cataloochee on the other side.

Today I went over there. I hit Cove Creek Rd. in about 4 miles. In 8 more miles of nice twisty pavement I was on gravel for the next 50 miles. At the paved intersection that takes you to the park I went straight.

I didn’t want to deal with the people today but it’s definitely worth it to check out the park. Almost always lots of elk.

The road is less improved but still great quality.

Beautiful. I love the colder weather. Less people. Easier to see through trees.

    Gpx file?

I know that’s a lot of work. Descriptions would be good.

At the intersection of the Mount Sterling Rd hiking trail which heads over to Heintooga Ridge Rd.
    8B044D6D-9556-4500-B8A4-49B933B73E80.jpeg

I turned right here for a juicy bit of leaf covered ruts, rocks, and some mud.

The next 5 ish miles were the most difficult riding. It was a blast. Up and down on a ridge, I wouldn’t have wanted to be on a big bike, but it’s doable. One climb is through a rhododendron forest.
