Anyone looking to get in a ride Saturday? Supposed to be pretty nice weather, I plan on going somewhere but I don't have a plan yet.
I'm not sure about this Saturday but I'll check with my boss (wife) later and let you know. I am off next week from Tuesday on through the weekend. I'd be up to meet up next week if you or anyone else is available for sure.
I'm out for Saturday, I'm probably going to get a ride in but I can't commit on a time I'm going to just wing it.
Yeah I still don't have a plan, just head out and find some good roads.
You wanna ride this stuff over here tomorrow around noon?
Great riding with you yesterday @mhr650! Great day, great roads, great pace, and great company. We met near my place and went up and over Cataloochee, FS 288, then a loop through Martha Sundquist which was awesome. That KTM is a beast!
@scfrank variations on a theme
Thanks! I have to get up there with you guys one day!
I love Martha
You are welcome anytime. Here are some more tracks from a couple weeks ago a little north of where we were yesterday. We kicked off from the Hartford TN exit of I40. Looked like this while I was there.
I just figured out a super sweet day long loop, can’t wait to run it. Anyone up for a ride Thursday or Friday?
Gents, pops and I are taking an overnight ride tomorrow on the dual sports and staying in Blowing Rock. Plan is to explore the area just south in Pisgah. Planning to take Globe Rd. down into it and hitting the dirt/FS roads. Can anyone give some info as to what the status of those is? I've heard some may be closed but nothing on the forest service's website.
Table Rock Rd.
Maple Grove Ch. Rd/Maple Sally
Also anything in particular we should be sure to ride? Planning on taking taking 105 south at some point to Wiseman's view. Mostly looking for good forest service/gravel roads but would also like to get into some moderate two track. I've read on here at some point that maybe there's some more technical stuff around Gragg or Roseboro Rd? Hoping someone in the know can chime in.
Thanks and Merry Christmas all!
There are lots of great roads around that area. I don't believe that any of those roads are seasonal but we have had a lot of rain lately so it's possible to run into washouts or downed trees at any time.
Here is a fun little road that runs between Roseboro road and Pineola road.
I think Craig Creek is the only road still closed because of the storms.
Thanks gents, that's the exact sort of info I was looking for! Will have to look up FS196 - not showing on Google maps but I'm sure it'll show up on OSMand.
Here's the XRL ready for the ride with some new Christmas goodies.
Here is a route that I did back in September out of Pineola. FS 196 is the unmarked road that runs between Edgemont road and Roseboro road, I was off before about it being between Roseboro and Pineola roads.
looks like fun. What happened to the beginning (straight line from waypoints to County Line Rd)? Did you go west and down County Line Rd somehow?
I think I lost signal for a while, but it's just highways so not much of a loss.
Thanks @mhr650 for riding with me yesterday. We did most of a day long woods loop of mostly dirt roads with just a touch of curvy pave thrown in for good measure. I’m running it again today and then I’ll post up the GPX track. I think it’s some really good riding and there is some difficult optional stuff hiding within the loop (Hurricane Creek, Baby Heads Trail, various single track opportunities, Jeep eating mud hole) so it’s the kind of ride that can be whatever you want to make it. Big bike doable based off Mike riding that KTM 1290 beast! I’ll let him discuss that more if he wants. There are several fuel stops available for smaller tank guys like me. I was having too much fun and forgot to take pics. Here are the only two I took. Thanks again Mike, I’m looking forward to our next ride!
It was a great ride. Too bad I have obligations and can't do it again today.
