Rode it today with @Rusty Rocket. We rolled out at 11 and got back at 5 and we were hustling. I like the fuel stop near Del Rio on 107, single pump and you’ll miss it if you’re not paying attention. It could’ve been longer but we ran out of daylight. It’s a fun loop.

Will definitely have to check that loop out. Just got back to Raleigh after riding around Pisgah the past few days with Dad. Highlight was Maple Sally Rd., 105/Wiseman's View, and Guinness beef roast at Six Pence in Blowing Rock.

    :D

We took a number of out-and-back FS roads which were awesome...and some were closed unfortunately. Need to figure out where I can see when things will be clsoed, etc. Also stopped and talked to the folks at Betsey's.

Epic ride. Covered about 400 miles in the past two days, including 100% back roads out of Winston to get up there. By far the most I've ridden the XRL since I bought it in July and we got to know each other alot better. I LOVE this bike! Dad's 450L did awesome too. We were both running the Tusk tires and they were great in all conditions.

You are riding some of my favorite roads! I would like to meet up with you sometime and ride. I have a DR650 for dual sport. I ride out of Linville every July. I come up the week of the Highland Games.

Got in a nice ride yesterday. Temperature in the 60s and plenty of sunshine, can’t ask for much more in January. Cataloochee was gated so I had to backtrack and take White Oak Rd. to Fines Creek to Max Patch Rd.

Rode around the Martha Sundquist SF.

Took Round Mountain Rd. to Rattlesnake Gap. Explored an open gate until another downed tree forced my retreat.

Not me. About 10 days ago, I pulled my rear suspension off to inspect and re-grease and found a bad bearing and sleeve. Had to order parts and now we wait.
Figured this was the worst weather month. Who knew?

So, you took the left turn at Rattlesnake Gap? If so you didn’t miss anything by getting blocked by the tree, I did it last summer and while the map shows that it connects back to the main road it just dead ends. You wouldn’t have had to deal with the foliage yesterday like in the summer which was waist high in the center and head high on the sides in places, but down near the end there were a couple of huge puddles full width of the road and 50ft long. I can’t imagine how much worse the puddles would have been yesterday after all the rain, at least they have a hard bottom since we don’t get Jeeps down there churning them up, that would make for some epic mudholes.

I was coming down Round Mountain towards Del Rio after a full loop plus middle road of Martha (I did a figue 8). That stream crossing in Martha Sundquist was raging yesterday by the way, I almost turned around. At the T intersection where you would normally turn right to get to WASP or Wolf Creek Falls I actually took a harder right and headed uphill on that 2 track goat trail. I think the gate was "opened" by an excavator as the securing post was laying there concrete entombed on the ground. The road continuing to the falls looks on the map like it connects to Upper Shut In Rd. which terminates on 25 near Hot Springs. This road IS gated (for about 100 yards DAMHIK) on either side. I didn't head down to the falls because of exactly what you brought up, I figured it would be a mess. Last time I was there the gate to the left at the T intersection (near the shot up Ratllesnake Gap sign) was open and that's where I was heading, unfortunately it was locked. Cataloochee being locked was a surprise to me also.

I live in Marion NC, and do 95% of my riding in the Wilson Creek/Pisgah area! Next time you’re around feel free to message me and I’ll see about breaking free to show you some of my favorite roads. There are plenty in there.

    Love me a Scram.

I just wish they'd put the rear brake caliper up outta harms way. Did you do yours, or did Triumph? (looks to be moved)

Yeah, the rear caliper usually is hanging below the swingarm. Right where a rock could destroy it
