Thanks for posting this track! Not being from 'round these parts' I waste a lot of time looking for routes (and parking if driving with bike on hitch). Really like mountain runs, and towers a plus . . . almost cheating compared to that 1290, my bike is really small . . .

FWIW Walnut creek rd from US 25/70 near Marshall NC to Big Laurel is closed due to a road wash. Looks pretty bad.

Totally rideable. Where's the DOT's sense of adventure.

When I rode thru Western NC last Spring they were repairing roads like this from Spring rains. I'm told they had similar problems after Summer rains. Now this.

Going to Mammoth Caves via Route 85 TN switchbacks from NC this spring. The old existing satellite image show the road washed out. Wonder if it has happened again?

Should be a fun trip! We get so much rain that the conditions on these old mountains and the road beds can really be a challenge to maintain I'm sure. I've seen the slowly advancing damage they can easily plan to address as well as the "out of the blue" slides often on the same roads. I'd google the specific areas of concern for closures and/or call the park or local law enforcement, dot, etc. depending on what you are needing specifics on. A good gully washer can cause plenty of temporary closures even without a full washout so Plan B is always helpful to research.

Same here, Harley rider here. Not been on dirt in 40 years. So I bought a CRF 250L Rally to get my feet in the dirt Now I'm looking to get a older KLR or DR to tinker with while I relearn the off road thing. This forum has been a wealth of info and inspiration.

Good group here, I've ridden with a few of them since posting that. If you need anything or have any questions just ask. What part of NC are you in?

Been away a while but it's great to see some activity here. I was convinced there was no good dirt left in WNC that didn't involve dodging Buick LeSabres full of meth addicts and put stiffer RaceTech springs on my plated WR450 to complete the supermoto conversion. But now I'm thinking maybe there's still some dirt I haven't seen. Might need to put the knobbies back on for 2020?

Scanning the Google Earth looking for places to explore and I came across this Wayehutta OHV area.

Someone told me to check out Wayehutta Rd. awhile ago and I haven't made it there yet. Looks like it's a pay to play type of thing, just wondering if it's worth it or not?

I rode there a lot years ago. Nice trails with pretty good variety, generally not as difficult as Brown Mountain. FYI for whatever reason it is pronounced worry hut…

I have thought about going back with the 1290, but it has been closed for some time due to a landslide on the entrance road.

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/nfsnc/alerts-notices/?aid=52178

I have no idea when it will reopen, but after the wet winter we have had and all of the damage on other Forest Service roads I doubt that it is a big priority.
