Mmm...always worth a stop http://www.smokymountainbakers.com/gallery
And Roan Mtn is always a hoot
Tell me about Roan Mtn please. I was looking at that area for next weekend. Smokey Mountain Bakers, my go to breakfast stop
Hit up the folks at Mountain View MC campground. Mark and Janine Cornell know all about paved and Unpaved roads in that area. Sometimes you just have to ask Mark and he’ll show you around on his Stelvio.
I got out for a very short Gap Breakfast Club run, but nothing else this past weekend. Next weekend maybe in NC Triad so I might get to run up 66 or 89 and hit the gaps north of Mt Airy. TBD. Anyone interested?
Weekend after next (so April 25th) good chance I'll lead a street ride down 28 to SC from Knoxville... Or... run up over Shady Valley, Roan, NC 80. NC 80 is my favorite road of all time... LMK everyone if you want to come along.
Great weekend to get out. Conditions were actually about perfect on Sunday after 3” of rain in Wilson Creek Saturday afternoon/evening. Saw a bunch of bikes out. I had a few friends from Raleigh that had never ridden the area so I had to take those guys out that way.
Hit Maple Sally first of course, then over to Betsey’s for lunch. Then up Roseboro to the parkway and headed over to Wiseman’s View off of old 105 before taking the guys over to stay at Mark and Janines place at Mountain View Motorcycle Campground. Sunday evening was fun and interesting, my buddy Daniel will never be the same. I believe he is moving up that way to stay at the Station on 19 with all of his new found family.
Got up Monday morning and pulled Mark’s arm to take us up to Beauty Spot and whatever else dirt or twisty backroad he could show us by lunch time before heading home. Had a great time with some people I haven’t seen in a while, and always a pleasure to stay at MVMC. Hope y’all had a good weekend!
Maple Sally goodness
Betsey’s for lunch
I think Sev was peeking at me in the bathroom, then trying to tell the others about it...
Got a pic with Suhthernboy’s truck lol
I found out that a couple of friends were staying at MVMC the night before me. So I asked Janine to fix them up something special, so she left them some my little ponies to snuggle up with. When we arrived... I had a note.
Time to hit the Station!
The best part about the Station is that Dave will come pick you up in his minivan shuttle and take you down and back! Awesome service, and he always has some great stories to tell like the bartender that works for them stopped in from hiking the Appalachian over 3 years ago and is still there and is basically like family now haha. Good people down there... and some strange ones as well.
This is the whole reason my friend Daniel fell in love here and I’m pretty sure he’s moving back ASAP.
Time to pack up and roll Monday morning...
Is my buddy Sev’s vstrom not the baddest damn vstrom you’ve ever laid your eyes on?! How Suzuki should have done it!
Raf is a true adv’er...
Wait... is that Raf?!?
Mark led us on a great ride Monday morning up to Beauty Spot and some other great roads.
Look at these hell raisers
Time to get back to the grind, but had a great 2 days of riding.
Florida refugee crew is back.
Got in an afternoon ride yesterday, stayed close to home.
Still some man made snow left
Found a new to me little loop near Jenkins Creek on the Reservation, it was a lot of fun. It looked like a SxS trail but had open gates on each end and appeared like it was maintained at some point in the past.
This old cabin was buried back in there
It wasn’t far from the deep creek crossing and this
Rode Friday in the beautiful downtown Mortimer/Edgemont area.
Went to Mountain View Motorcycle Campground this past weekend with ncroadtoad and took Mark’s beginner adventure class, and, yes I did learn a few things. Met Chopper Charles. Had a blast riding some forest service roads, narrowly averted tragedy when there were 20 or so roofing nails in a curve out in the boonies.
I think this clean, one owner, low mile Grand Cherokee was on FS293.
Temps were a little cool in the am, high 30s, but the afternoons warmed up to high 50s and were beautiful.
I believe Smoky Mountain Bakers restaurant has been mentioned earlier, fabulous place to eat breakfast if you’re in that part of the world. MVMC was great, Mark and Janine were great hosts, more like bed and breakfast hosts, and as mentioned earlier Mark knows the area and some really nice roads.
That is all.
Nice photo! I just had to bring the color out a bit and hope you don't mind.
I'll have some time on my hands late-May/early June. I'll be riding with you guys in WNC.
Wesser to cowee bald and around Big Laurel yesterday.
Had a great time at Mountain View Motorcycle Campground this weekend, and made some new friends!
That's a shame. You know the jeep probably looked "ok" when he got stuck and he went out to get help. Now it's absolutely ruined.
For sure. I see cars, trucks, tractors, earth moving equipment abandoned in the woods and wonder what the story is. Some of it was worth a lot when left there. Even that Jeep would bring something at the junk yard.
Now, a mustang in the front yard has some aesthetic value.
Long weekend of moto camping around wilson's creek this weekend. Lots of forest road riding and added in the parts of the parkway, 221 and 80 for some extra fun. Good reminder on Saturday to ride aware as some of the folks out in the forest act like fools. Good thing these three were ok, but they destroyed a new Toyota....
