They don’t suck. He rides what he maps.
Hey guys, is there a way to get a good dirt ride in and also incorporate a run up Mt Mitchell? I haven't been up there in ages, it would be a nice destination.
My. Mitchell is off the parkway. There’s Curtis Creek, but it’s just a dirt road from Rt. 70 near Old Fort up to the BRP. There are other FS roads nearby.
Here’s how I’d do it, I’m sure I could tweak it a bit. I don’t know that area well, but I know how to get there
Correct (rough) mileage looks to be 155 one way
Well, that gets us on the Redneck Dragon, which is ok, or I could just trailer as usual. Just thinking ahead for a September ride. Is there a way to get HC into it? By Sep I might have a new Precious to bring along...
Absolutely, it brings you a little far south if you were to ride from home. That would make for a pretty long day unless you just jammed the easy route home. Trailer it to HC and the dirt to pavement percentage just gets higher and the route becomes more flexible. I left out some stellar pavement around Marshall that could be worked in too. I'd imagine someone over that way can help with a day of dirt over there as well if you just haul to Mt. Mitchell. I haven't spent much time east of 26. Good luck Friday, I think I sold the Deluxe last night. Daph asked how much the Triumph Scrambler 1200 xe is
eta: I think Brown Mountain would be a good place for that new machine if you get it.
"I think I sold the Deluxe last night. Daph asked how much the Triumph Scrambler 1200 xe is"
and that's how it starts...... then next thing you know there's a 2 stroke in the future
I just got the 990 back together again... no, again no issues (LOL) but I'm always tinkering. This time I changed the GPS mount and put on a new GPS. I had a Montana when I did the TAT and kinda hated the Zumo I was using... wish I'd had that Montana for the MABDR and SM500, but I have it now.
I like your original plan Josh, as there are indeed some good roads there. Let's do that. I'll come over 32 and we'll take that route, and skip HC. The next time if I have the new Precious I'll want to try HC.. maybe. Might take me a bit to get used to the powah. Or I might love it. Time will tell but I know I'll have to get used to it.
Anyway, let's plan on a Mt Mitchell ride soon, we can bring whoever wants to go, I know if we ride on 32 I'll bring a few. Most won't be looking for anything like HC anyway... Sean and I would like to do HC and/or Babyheads again this year, once I get the new one and get used to it a bit. Not sure if taking that bike out on one of those trails is the best idea on my first outing... I can see looping it in a flash.
What's HC ?
I'm down for Mt. Mitchell, I'm also down for another HC day. I'd like to do the full ride I had planned out for the last HC day. Babyheads, the good 1/2 of Martha, Halls Top, and Rocky Top were all on the agenda. Should be a good ride, I've not tried to do it all in one shot yet. @justBert has a new weapon he'd probably like to bring to that one.
If possible I'd like to make this one!
UGH, I should've guessed that one.
For the HC/Babyheads day let me get Precious here and get my head around it. I can certainly do both on the 990 but I bet I have a lot more energy when I only have 225lbs under me. That said, I can't help but love the addictive sound of my 990. I'll probably do those two and others on the 990 about as frequently as the other.
Hurricane Creek would be fun today
Cats and dogs, there was a slide near Canton that closed 40 west bound and 276 from here towards Brevard is shut down due to a slide, landslide on 215 up near the Parkway, the list goes on. Doug you're the only guy that could get me to ride that today, see you around 5?
Uphill with street tires.
And a wet suit.
I have 6" in the rain gauge and it ain't slowing down, creek is full and I'm hoping the driveway survives this one.
