That road and tunnel are so cool. It’s crazy how much money was wasted there. Wasted is harsh because people enjoy it but wasted :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakeview_Drive

I got up extra early this morning, and left the house at 5:30 am on the BMW. Headed up 441 in Cherokee, but there were no gas stations open at 6:20, so I had to turn around and head towards the casino. The station right across the street was open, so I filled up, then turned back on 441N.

Thought I'd at least check at the Oconoluftee Visitor Center for elk, even if it was still dark. They've got the right lane closed, along with flashing lights and elk warnings, so I was just poking along. A large bull was grazing right on the edge of the road, and as my lights hit him, he gave me a look like "Don't even think about stopping for a picture ", so I didn't. :lol2

Turned around at the visitor center, then picked up the BRP. I was hoping to get some decent pictures of the sunrise, but there weren't any good spots facing east until after the sun was already up. :(

    Pre-dawn.

Close, but too early, and not quite east.

54 degrees at the high point, grip and seat heaters on low. :D

The smells at Mt. Mitchell, like being on a Christmas tree lot the first day the trees arrive. :-)

Almost no traffic on the way there. Turned back and headed to Asheville. I wanted to stop at the Eurosport KTM/BMW dealer, so I got off the Parkway at NC70. Pretty easy ride from there, got what I needed, so I turned back to pick up the Parkway again.

Right at the BRP entrance a velvet 6 point buck ran across the road in front of the car in front of me, 11:30 in broad daylight. So much for the dusk and dawn theory. :D

Getting back on the Parkway was a mistake, too many cars wanting to drive 30 mph, so I got off after a few miles. Picked up I-40W for a bit, then picked up 74W. I wanted to try a lunch wagon that is sometimes in Dillsboro, but they weren't where they had said they'd be today. :baldy

I wanted to stop at the Nantahala Brewing Company in Bryson City, but after finding the place, it turns out they only sell beer to go in growlers. :doh

So even though I struck out on the last 2 stops, it was still a good 8 hour ride, covering 315 miles.

It’s the “year of the deer” around my travels in WNC. Time of day doesn’t seem to matter.

FWIW a little bird informed me that Elijah road off 28 is finally being resurfaced. Walnut Creek is next on the list.

Did you record the ride last Sunday? If so how far did we go? Next time we do something like that we need to pause for some pics. I wish I gave you my phone so you could snap a pic or two of me in the streams.

I'm going to have to ask you to stop posting pics of that beautiful scrambler in this thread, my struggle is bad enough already! :lol3

Also meant to post up, I was hoping to meet up with Norma Jean on Sunday, but I got a late start. Ended up meeting up with a few other friends, unfortunately one of them had a couple of oopsy daisies… :lol3

We should have grabbed the pic while it was still on the ground haha.

I can't wait, I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm in the hopes of scoring a winter time deal. We'll see how long I can hold out :D

I know this ride didn't take place in NC, but we just finished the NEBDR. If you get a chance you should plan to ride this BDR. Screenshot_20210910-154848.jpg PXL_20210908_210736119.MP.jpg FB_IMG_1631450790753.jpg PXL_20210910_141753430.jpg IMG_20210909_184630.jpg PXL_20210909_211428911.MP.jpg

@gwhis is in your neck of the woods running the TAT. If you see a DR650 ion the back wheel that's probably him.
