    My little ride report.
My trips to Wilson Creek, beautiful down town Mortimer have turned into an annual fall trip and so here I am. I have a few days of riding and it's amazing how this area is frozen in time. Everything still looks the same, nothing has changed and that is good thing IMO.
My ride today started from beautiful Downtown Mortimer on NC90, and a stop to look at the awesome Wilson Creek. It gets way more awesome down stream in the Wilson Creek Gorge.
    20211012_101413.jpg

And and another stop to look at some of the damage from some recent flooding.
    20211012_101748.jpg

And then onto FR464 that takes you over to Linville Falls area. At the end of 464 you can go right and it takes to the parkway, go left it takes you to NC 181.
    20211012_102406.jpg

Today my mission was to go the top of Mt Mitchell so I hit the parkway, wasn't as bad as feared. It was a bad day to go there, cold, wet, maybe 1/8 mile visibility, and wall to wall people. Didn't stay long.
    20211012_130713.jpg

Then back to Linville Falls, and onto the Kistler Memorial Highway, aka old 105 for a break and a snack.
    20211012_153523.jpg

Took Kistler Highway to the bottom to NC126, then onto fish hatchery rd, then onto Rose Creek rd to NC181. I was planning to go back up on table rock Rd to Ginger Cake rd, out to 181, and back to FR464 but I was getting fanny fatigue and close to beerthirty. So I took the easy way, stayed on 181 on to Brown Mountain Beech rd back to Beautiful downtown Mortimer.

    Home sweet home.

Love me some mortimer/Wilson creek area. That FS campground across the road has nice hot showers and you get good creek noise. Can you give me details on that little cabin behind the store ?

Sure, It's very basic, clean, comfortable and quiet. Amenities are limited (I like that ). If you need it, bring it. I'll be back.

Thanks, next time I'll let you when I'm coming to the area and maybe we can get a ride in. I'd really like to see your Transalp. That's one of the bikes that been on my wish list a long time.

Then off to lower Paint Rock falls.

The DR does feel like it's gonna fall apart when it gets hot and loose. But it just keeps running... ( so far ).
Hope to see you guys out there soon!!
Chapter #2 maybe tomorrow. Unless someone has work for me :)

For some reason the roads around Lake Lure were deserted at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday. This is an optimal situation.

Why yes, some scenes for the 1987 movie 'Dirty Dancing' were filmed at Lake Lure. Thanks for asking.

    Never saw it.

Any movie with "dancing" in the title is skipped. Hell, I hate chick flicks and musicals, so ........

I got sucked in by "An Officer and a Gentleman" because of the title. I'm more careful now.:photog

Rt. 9 to Black Mountain is fun IF you can get the same deserted roads.
