Visit Mountain View MC campground in Elk Park NC. Host Mark Cornell will show you or point you in the direction of a lot of great roads. His wife Janine will make you feel like family.

Met up with @justBert yesterday at the Skyway gas station on the intersection of 129 and 143 in Robbinsville for an afternoon ride. He was on his Beta 390RS, and I had my Husaberg 570, so we took Massey Branch and headed off to Little Snowbird. We cut across Porterfield Gap, and picked up Beaver Creek Rd in Andrews.

Turned off Junaluska onto a different part of the Trail of Tears that I wasn't familiar with.

Headed down a dirt road (Bert might know the name - he sent me a GPX file, see below now ) with lots of leaves on the ground. Looked like no one had been on it recently, but the way leaves are starting to fall, who knows.

Came out on Tusquitee, and then picked up Cold Branch down to 64 to get gas. The Husaberg only has a 2 gallon tank, so I was just playing it safe.

Turned off 64 onto Rainbow Springs Rd. I needed the power of the 570 to keep up with Bert on his 390. His tires seemed to do better in the gravel - I almost lost the front washing out a couple times. Either that or he's just better than me. :shog

We looped around so we could hit both Old River Road and Winding Stairs. Came out on 19/74, through the Nantahala Gorge to 28.
I turned off onto 143 to home, and Bert continued on 28 to his house.

About 130 miles or so, and maybe 4.5 - 5 hours of good riding. :D

    Let's see if this works.

Everyone’s definition of your descriptives vary a bit. But, if your looking for some super cool camping or bunk house accommodations you should check out Mountain View Motorcycle Campground in Elk Park. Excellent peeps and lots of exploring. If your looking for hotels then jump up to Marion VA or possibly Wytheville. Tremendous dirt around Comers Rock.

Had to split wood today... because tomorrow Winter begins.

Well we got 2 out of 3... describe 'solid lodging'.

I do the National Forest thing ( permit ), all the wood is seasoned so I just buck and store and then split every few weeks as needed.
It also helps that I live across the road from the NF. It's a neverending supply.

Over in the flatter part of Virginia, explored some old mills, found some mill ponds, dams & some gravel by a river. I'll go back to explore more one day.

Heck of a ride today on Squally Creek and Huffman Creek with @justBert - couldn't have asked for better weather and riding conditions! I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy the beautiful day we had today. I'll try to post some videos tomorrow.

Yeah, I live in Asheville. You can go to McDowell and Watauga counties and ride for days on gravel. Marion (in McD county) is growing and has a couple of good breweries now. Old Fort has Hillman brewing, which started in Asheville. There's camping in the forest up Curtis Creek and you can hop the BRP to Mt Mitchell or go to Grandfather Mtn.
Lots of gravel all over Watauga and on into Yancey and Ashe. Highly recommend Daniel Boone Inn in Boone if you have a gaggle of inmates. They serve fried chicken and stuff family style.
If you go through Gaffney you can pick up hwy 11 (cherokee foothills hwy) and go to Lake Lure then take 9 to Black Mountain. Or you can go out toward Clemson and explore the areas about the lakes.
Charlotte isn't a bad place to be located for day rides.
