With the fall colours just starting and a sunny day in the forecast I decided to explore the back roads up to Tobermory.

My ride for this is a recently acquired 1974 Honda Trail 90. The slow top speed meant avoiding highway 6 as much as possible but to avoid riding late at night I took the highway home and didn't cause to much of a traffic jam.

My route generally followed the shoreline as much as possible and I crossed over from the west coast to the east side between Oliphant and Wiarton.

Plenty of interesting backroads to explore with nothing that the little Honda could not handle.

Took a rest at Griegs Caves to go for a hike. Well worth the $10.

Made it all the way up to Tobermory. Pretty slow this time of year so not the usual crowds.

226 miles without a hiccup. The seat padding is pretty tired but the milk crate provided some decent lumbar support.

Thanks. These were just the cellphone pictures.

I had a pair of film cameras with me as well so I'll have a few more pictures to add once the film gets processed.

I’m looking at a move to a Vespa. My year owning a Grom showed me (at my age) that small bikes are the bomb.

    Great photos.

The very slow Bantam showed me that taking the back roads is way more fun that just going for mileage down the highway.

This was as shakedown run on the CT90 for a multi day trip up to Abitibi Canyon.

Yup. My Grom time showed me a whole new world of back alley mural art, coffee patios, back roads, smelling the roses, people watching. I no longer care if I'm in Helena, Montana first day out.

Another small bike fan here. Great stuff. I'd love to see more of your BSA as well.

Do you belong to the GB section of the CVMG by any chance?

I don't. Just haven't reached out yet since there is not much going on recently.

With your choice of bikes you would fit right in with the group up there. Good bunch of people. Looking forward to more posts of day trips from your area of Ontario. I was up in early September to do the waterfall tour and enjoyed it immensely. Sometimes my riding buddy and I get up to Point Clark and catch an ice cream at the store at Holyrood on the way home. Enjoy riding those smaller bikes.

Here are some pictures of a ride up to Sauble Beach on the Bantam. It is a long trip on such a slow bike. I ran into some even slower model T Fords so they were holding up traffic for me from Southampton to Sauble.

Those pictures were taken with a Zeis Ikon pocket camera that is about the same vintage as the BSA.

Did the 1974 CT’s come stock with those turn signals?

As follow up, I did indeed purchase a Vespa GTS 300 Super last Thursday. I must look bad ass confusing to people in traffic wearing my black Harley Davidson jacket on a white scooter. I rock!

I just wish it were May instead of mid October. Not many days left. ☹️

    They did.

I think that might have been the first year they came standard.
