I just learned that long time Alaska ADV Rider Joe Shaw has passed. He was a friend to many on this site, and a regular at D2D for many years. I will miss the old fart and look back fondly on the rides I shared with him. Ride on in Heaven friend...

Can someone post a picture, please? I’m trying to put a face to the name I remember.

Oh man. I had no idea. Bummer! I hope his wife's doing ok. I always thought Joe was a great guy. Loved to have a good time and a good ride was a big part of that. One of the rides that sticks out in my memory from 15 plus years ago was the back way from FBX to ANC at a very good clip w/ Joe and another buddy of mine that doesn't post or lurk here... and that I haven't seen in too long.

Here's Joe reaching for something at a dinner w/ friends in FBX years back. That's me out of frame on the far left, Kurt, Paul, George and Joe.

Here he is in 2004 between George Rahn and Herr Schreiber. Always a happy guy.

And here's a pic of Joe somewhere south of the Pie House and maybe 100 miles or so out of Anchorage. Back of his red GS boxes was written "wide load".

And this is where we were heading. IIRC this was right around the time the DOT was taking corners out of the road toward Eureka. They referred to it as a geotextile nightmare which is code for outstanding riding.

According to his daughter when she notified his friends on his Facebook page, there will be no services, his ashes will be spread in Oregon and Alaska.

I'm late to this party, but I remember having an awesome pre-D2D ride with Joe across the Denali HW and beyond. He was always telling a joke or laughing at ours. Rode that 1100GS like a champion.
