I ran into a coupla older fellas this summer while riding around SW WI and one of them said there's a legit river crossing near Pepin. He showed me on his paper map and I thought "I'll remember that for sure" so I didn't write it down. Suffice it to say I forgot almost immediately (can't even remember where I set my keys down 30 seconds later). Anyone know the road he was talking about? I want to go to there.

Nope. Go north to Red Wing or south to Wabasha.

Yep! That's it. I recognized it (on the map) right away. Thanks.

Is there a name for that "river" that crosses RR51? :lol3

BTDT 10 times. Off to the internet!

Looks like the north branch of pine creek.

Right. North Branch of Pine Creek River. Looks like a raging torrent, too.
I've just always wanted to cross some moving water (as opposed to puddles).

Depending on how far you are willing to travel there's one out in Iowa linked here. You can see some pictures of us crossing it in 2017 at the 1:36 mark of the video below.

That's really cool. Good tip. I'm only about 3 hours away - plus my dad and I regularly meet up in the coulees for day rides. Maybe a trip to Iowa is in our future.

The first post of this thread has a really decent set of tracks of gravel and pavement around the WI/IA Driftless area including the water crossing above. Firetower Rd, just west of Waukon Junction is a perennial fan favorite.

That looks awesome. Is that the spot where the T.W.A.T. goes into Iowa? If so, then I'll hit it when I do the southern half of it next summer.

Looking at my 2015 edition of the TWAT tracks, yes Firetower Rd is on the track just south of Harpers Ferry.

There are 4 water crossings, 5 if you take the east- west loop.

Head up to CR A and cross the Rush river down to 385th street too.

Not really near Pepin, but Maiden Rock WI.

I rode it today; nice spot in a nice area. It needs to be about 40 miles longer, though.
