The boss just bought a VFR Crossrunner, felt nice and light and I could ride it all day no problems but a bit cramped and, umm, no smile factor, it just didn’t punch. I wasn’t expecting 1200 grunt, but after all it is is an 800 and should go accordingly. He defended it like all Honda people do, “yeah, wait until Vtec hits”.

Good ride fellas. Nice l o n g lunch too. Sorry to all those reading this thread that couldn't come along. It would be great to get a full on ROAR ride happening soon.

Proved that the Sprint is not for me. My various aches and pains just don't work well with it. I was in fairly decent pain by the time I got home. For comparison, 1000km/day on the 955 was doable. I would be standing to relieve my arse by the end. 500km on the outfit, mainly 'cause it's a bit slower and the shoulders do get a work out. I could do a lot more k on the TTR without worrying about it.

The Sprint just gets me in the hips. Different effect of the same arthritis illness that made the 955 not an option. The rhumatiz makes my hands go a bit numb - not a great thing for braking. Pity, it's got a beautiful engine. Oh, that's right, they make the Speed Triple. Even my son reckons I should just bite the bullet and chase up one of them. However, the seat/footpeg relationship would be a deal breaker. It feels like the footpeg are too far forward. Yeah, rear sets. Nah. Then the weight would go further on the wrists and the pelvis would be rotated a bit too. OK for the race track. Not good for sitting on all day.

Now, a question for those experienced with newer bikes on wide tyres. I found the only way I could get this thing to turn confidently was to really press the outside knee into the tank. That had lots of flow on effects for foot & hand pressure, hip position and torso rotation. Very different to anything I've ridden before, even a TZ.

I’ve got 120’s on the front and 170’s on the rear, a bit of effort to tip in but not pressing knees into the tank effort. It does feel heavy despite being a “light” 1200, but a bit of counter steer to tip in, and a bit of opposite to bring it back up and all good. If you want to be a bit more spirited then slide an arse cheek off the seat and it’ll go around tighter but I’d rather just cruise along at non-keeeeef speeds. The GS on the same tyre felt completely different, a bit more body English was required. I’ve got Karoos on atm, had Pilots on originally, the Karoos are a bit more effort but not much. I had Heidenaus. I don’t want to talk about it.

Great riding weather at the moment so decided to take the old XJ for a spin with Kel on the back and did a nice little 170km loop stopping off for a counter lunch in Tallangatta.
