    void from fredericksburg, here

so I've been on vacation and returned home to find the waypoints for the TN Twister and yes indeed it's going to be fun. I haven't really looked at scoring but you can't beat the location

hey all, somebody steer me toward a phone app that works for this stuff- so far all I've done is route on google mymaps then plonk waypoints in the GPS... but I'd like to be able to at least see enough to route on the fly, and also route to a waypoint with the phone (like Waze, but with waypoints instead of addresses)

I've decided that this go-'round I'm going to try to route in basecamp instead of google, just to see what it's like- though so far I'm not super-excited.

Maybe not what your looking for, but I actually do the waypoints into Waze. I create a favorite location in Waze consisting of the GPS location then name it the waypoint name. Kind of a PITA, but it's an option. Waze seems to work with both GPS coordinates (N38° 17.896' W77° 30.635' or 38.298486, -77.510605).

thanks Jim, trying to cut some of the cut/paste/type out of my life though... I'm on iOS for now

When it comes to rallying, I guess I'm still chiseling the coordinates on Stone tablets!

I'll hide and watch and see what you figure out!

that said, some of the cut/paste/type isn't as bad as it seems. Right now I'm putting the TN Twister stuff into basecamp and I've spent a lot more time whining about the process than it took to actually do it.

Edit: any Rever users care to opine? Curious about your experience using it alongside a gps in LD rallies

Gonna go cross post in the iron butt thread too, forgive me

Good call cross posting - might be some good info on the other thread. I can't help with alternate routing using a phone as I only use Basecamp and dedicated gps units ... but happy to talk through my process anytime if you want

Remembering of course that I've never won a rally :lol3

POIViewer on iOS allows you to import a gpx file, view all the waypoints on a map, select one and then send it to your mapping program including google maps and Waze.

That is awesome! Way easier than my manual entry! POI pocket on Android claims to do the same do I am going to investigate that!!

    Thanks Luckycharms!

I am not. We have a wedding in California that weekend. And my daughters birthday fell on the Rock n Ride weekend this year so I haven’t been able to rally since the Buttlite last year!

If using Android, POIPocket is a great app. Allows upload of a gpx file, then you can send individual waypoints to any app that maps. I've used it as my primary nav for the last two IBRs.

so do I work like a rented mule to get to the start of what I think will be a really good score or do I take it easy getting there and have a lower-scoring but more challenging (and way more fun) ride on Saturday?

Edit: POIViewer is great, still playing with it but it’s exactly what the doctor ordered.
