Agreed - and even without the bears, it's a good side trip off the Cassiar to Stewart, Hyder and on to the Salmon Glacier.
I’m thinking about running the Dempster again this coming year but I think I’m gonna wait and see how NWT feels about visitors from the south. They are the only province/territory in Canada to close internal borders so far. I wanted to run the TransLab last year then wound up taking my Harley and turning around in Cape Breton. So maybe TranLab will be an option this year.
That's cause they only have three roads that lead to the territory, pretty easy to control. I think the one in from Wood Buffalo is a dead ender even though it crosses into Alberta.
Yes it is and you can’t access it from Alberta anyway. Aboriginal communities are highly concerned about this so I just want to keep a watch and make sure I’m respecting their concerns at the time. It’ll be a fluid situation I guess.
I fully under stand their concern. Most live many hours drive from real hospital care. Probably Yellowknife would be the only place that would have the ability to deal with serious cases and that would mean a plane trip.
The NWT just announced plans to ease restrictions in the territory. However, strict border restrictions will stay in place indefinitely. Nobody from outside the NWT can enter the territory.
I was supposed to go last year. Decided to extend my retirement date until July in 2019 and to take 4 months this year instead. FXXK KR
That's funny. My youngest son got engaged last year. I told him I hope he doesn't plan on getting married during this years summer months. I had planned on being gone from May 1 until as late as Sept 1. No problem, the marriage was going to be in 2021. Perfect, how excited was I. Now I am worried again. Not to mention that this wasn't the apocalypse that they promised. Where are the zombies? They promised us zombies. KR
Canada is keeping border closed until at least June 21. Some premiers are asking the date to be July 15.
Yes, disappointing but it is a year to ride the local rides. I was planning a big ride east then South, maybe as far as east of Lake Superior. But now I think I'll just stick to BC
BC has closed all provincial campgrounds to non residents for the summer. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-parks-closed-nonresidents-1.5579086
BC and Alberta both. Promoting staying close to home I guess. The majority of the provincial parks near Vancouver are remaining closed for now as well unfortunately, including the backcountry.
