@CashCow any chance of dragging Lostboater over here?
I will ask him.
Ken has become a very good friend over the past five years.
Our Oyster Tours are numerous and so much fun.
And the European scooter trips are my favorite vacations ever, largely due to Ken and Walt, along with their wives, accompanying us.
He likes writing about them and posting photos as much as I do.
I think this could be a great spot for him.
Today my wife let me know that her cell phone was acting up.
It is an iPhone, probably four years old.
I offered her my phone to use as she is a realtor and was meeting with clients. A phone is very important in her daily life. More than it is in mine.
So she took mine, leaving me without one.
For someone who regularly rides a scooter lots of miles and into the countryside, I got a little concerned about having a mechanical problem or accident.
After all, I was on Rocket, an old modern Vespa that has had it's share of issues over the years.
How would I get in touch with the AMA and a towing service?
How would I contact her or someone else to come pick me up?
It made me consider changing the days ride, 20 miles to Baldwin for lunch.
But I went anyway and never needed to contact anyone.
This week I am ditching my 6 1/2 year old iPhone 5 and AT&T (Whom I call AT & No Service) for a new phone and T-Mobile (so I can use my phone on the European trips)
I have an old flip phone that i carry only for emergencies. No need for anything else.
I won't ride without mine. Lol it's how I take pics
I carry a very nice Canon camera on a lanyard around my neck for riding photos.
I used it on our kayaking trips too, but ruined the first one when it momentarily dipped into the Peace River in an awkward disembarking.
Ken, Dave, Larry and I are kayaking the Wakulla River next week.
I will be using my waterproof Fujifilm camera this time.
And post those photos here.
Waiting to see the photos!
You may find that T-mobile doesn’t live up to their advertised service in Europe. I put a T-Mobile sim in an old iPhone 5 to use in the UK with the TomTom Vio and in Spain. I fount it inadequate and less coverage than I expected we also couldn’t get a signal or a poor quality one in both of our houses, Breckenridgre and Houston. As a result I cancelled it instead of ATT as I had hoped to do.
T mobile was a mess when I had the service. Constant bad voice calls that were local. So bad I lost money to leave them. I now have Cricket and its just as good as top rated Verizon for cheap pricing.
With free HBO and $25 off our U-verse service ATT is competitively priced. I’m willing to pay the $10 a day when out of the US for he better service.
Though my new iPhone supports dual sims so I can opt for country specific sims if I need better loacal service. Having an unlimited data plan I still get unlimited while traveling.
Well, great, now I have joined another PTW forum just to be able to follow Rocket!
Welcome aboard Barry!
I am relatively new here but have enjoyed it being more scooter and ride oriented.
And far less three word games and negativity than the other one that I still frequent regularly.
The dominant figures here do not believe themselves to overly special either. Just regular folks.
I hope you will be posting about the cool rides you and Margot will be taking this summer.
Welcome to ADV and more importantly Battle Scooters! Jump on in and post your adventures. :)
One nice thing here is that it's active even during my miserable winters. Most other scooter sites have a sharp decline then. I have to have something other than snow to look at during the winter.
Same here in VT! I live vicariously thru trip postings by others such as CashCow, especially the oyster tours he does. I also spend too much time online looking at what to buy new for the scooters!
Just caught up on the phone conversation. Since sometimes I will ride solo, I have enabled a feature on iPhone in the message app that provides a location. So my wife can see where I am if I am running later than expected, which happens. Oh, I wonder where that road goes...... I find I am more apt to take a detour just because on 2 wheels rather than 4. There is also an app I am exploring called Glympse which I believe allows tracking in real time with various things like speed. Anyone use that?
I have a Spot that I use for Cannonball Runs. It is useful in putting the current location on Dave's Followride.
I use it all the time, mostly for family to know where I'm at but it's kind of fun to post the Glympse app link on the forums if I'm taking a long trip and other can watch the progress or lack there of. lol Very cool app!
Watching @The Virginian 's progress in real time in his ride reports was really cool.
We have had a gorgeous week of weather here and now that it's the weekend we have rain the next 3 days. Any scoot plans this weekend? @Bueller should be chomping at the bit to stretch his legs on the new Batman Xmax!
