The 7 Bridges Scooter Club had the weekend ride yesterday.

Our destination was Micanopy to have lunch at a BBQ restaurant on 441.

The numbers were down as it was cold at the start, and the ride was longer than the usual these days.

    Only five.

I had offered to lead and had a route that we have taken several times in the past.

But it is a good route of some of the best roads in the area. (not nearly as good as other parts of the country, but not bad)

We headed south and stopped after an hour at a gas station on 315 between Grandin and Interlachen.

When it came time to go, Kevin's Kymco GTI 300 didn't want to start.

He had luckily brought a jump starter and used it. It started.

From there we had another twenty miles or so to Citra, where his scooter stalled when we stopped for a red light.

We tried jump starting again, even using a second jumping kit brought by Don.

It started but wouldn't run at idle.

So we swapped his battery with mine.

We needed the jump start to get both going but they did start and we headed north to Kevin's house in Orange Park, hoping to get close enough that his insurance would cover the towing cost.

But we made it all the way home.

There we swapped batteries back to where they belong and had lunch (probably better than the BBQ in Micanopy) at Whitey's Fish Camp.

The only problem with skipping Micanopy was that my brother had heard of the trip and rode down to meet us there. Unanounced.

So we missed him, but had a very nice ride anyway.

You will have a twin on the ride as Russ, our quiet leader, purchased a new 2020 XMAX a month or so ago.

Unless he chooses to ride his 2013 GTS.

    Removing the battery in Razzo.

I had brought my tools but found that the screwdrivers were missing.

I had taken them out for a trip last week, putting them in a small zip bag.

Luckily the OEM toolkit was in the scooter.

    It had a workable screwdriver.

This Gregg is hoping he can make it as well. Unfortunately I still don’t even know where I will be at that time (Florida or Ohio) :bluduh it May very well wind up being a game day decision.

any word on the Kymco issue? My Kymco was very hard to start and would stall out. I fixed it by doing the 6000 mile valve adjustment and the exhaust valves were tight. No issues since then.

Because the battery got fully charged while residing in my scooter on a 60 mile ride, and my battery got nearly exhausted in the Kymco, it is clear that the problem is in the Kymco's charging system.

    You are probably good.

Looking forward to hearing more about that, Bill
I look at that voltage constantly while riding on both scooters
I used to carry a small jump box whenever I rode, but you have to hook them up directly to the battery. Obviously, and they are not that accessible

My fuel injected scoots have battery tender leads. I have "jumper cables" with a SAE plug that I can use if their battery goes flat, as their is no kickstart.

I had to look hard to find the ones with the red and black clamps reversed (were made for solar panel to battery connection) otherwise I would have had to reverse the colors on the clamps to correct the polarity.

Luckily, I was on Razzo, a Vespa GT with an easily accessible battery.

Kevin would have been out of luck had I been riding Max, as I have never accessed its battery.

I was looking for something in my old Rocket & Me blog today and stumbled on this post from 2017.
It was one of my better posts about the sleeping arrangements at the Copperhead Lodge near Blairsville, Georgia.
I was there for the Fall Gathering that year and enjoyed great company and rides.

    The Bunk Room

"Where are you from? asked Winnie, one of the five sharing an 8 bed bunkroom at the Copperhead Lodge outside of Blairsville, Georgia.

    "Jacksonville, Florida" I answered.

Without asking, she offered "I am from Tennessee, but I was born in San Francisco, then moved to Orange County, near Disneyland" My real name is Winifred. They called me Freddy in California, but felt that I had to change it to Winnie when I moved to Tennessee. Didn't want people to think I was a lesbian or anything"

"Where are you from?" She asked again.

    Jacksonville, Florida, I answered again.

That pretty much sums up the stay in the bunkroom last weekend.

Thursday and Saturday had only Mark and me staying in the room. Quite comfortable.

But Friday had us sharing the small space with Winnie, her motorcycle riding neighbor Steve, and a Harley riding heavy drinker, Donna.

Donna was at the bar most of the night. Live music was featured on weekends so a solo act was playing well. Donna, a singer in her own mind, especially when drinking, offered to make it a duet, but the singer declined. A few more drinks and she didn't ask again, simply walked onto the makeshift stage and began singing. The artist didn't shoo her off, but he wasn't happy.

When she came to bed, she could hardly get around, but finally found it and slept well.

In the morning, Winnie asked "where are you from?" yet again.

I asked if she and Steve were staying again and she said no. Too bad, I thought to myself with a wry smile.

I asked Donna and she said that she would be back, but didn't show, much to the delight of both Mark and me.

I only booked the bunkroom because I was riding by myself and wasn't sure I would be able to make it. And it was really cheap. I almost upgraded, but thought it might make a fun post, getting Rocket and Me restarted.

A good blogger would have photographed the room and visitors. But maybe it is best left to the imagination.

I did also change as a preventive measure the voltage regulator on this Kymco over the winter as I read Kymco forum this is a weak point. But I have also replaced the VRs on the two Vespa GTS's that we have.

    Another weekend, another ride.

Off to meet up with Ken and our Kentucky friend Warren today.

Getting together at Pyper Kub restaurant at the Williston airport, then riding to Salt Springs.

I will head home while they go to Disney and the Jacaranda.

I arrived at the Pyper Kub before the guys.

95 miles of cold air, but not a cloud in the sky.

    On Razzo today.

For some reason, it won’t go faster than 74 mph downhill. I guess that is fast enough, but it used to be faster.

We all used to be faster.
As a matter of fact every time I tell one of my road racing stories I always get faster ( well at least in my mind) :rilla
