I leave Bailey at 40 degrees and all bundled up. I drive over Kenosha about 30 times a year. Here is south park...I've riden/4 wheeled all the roads in all you can see since is was a kid. ..

20181019_111059.jpg So temps are definitely low enough (32) and im warm enough on this sunny day and cruise on down to fairplay
    20181019_111210.jpg

Its good that Colorado still has some heritage left from the good ole days. People were tough and worked hard in tough conditions. Hard to find these days.

Took right and headed for Summit County. Hwy 9 runs through Alma, Americas highest city. More then 500 feet higher then Kenosha pass. 20181019_112150.jpg

I SLOW to under the speed limit in this little town, you have been warned. Many of my old ski patrol friends live here. There is an aroma of mellow in the air for sure.....

I head for Hoosier pass and the temps drop into the 20's. Quick picture above Montgomery reservoir. There is a very good 4x4 trail that climbs up this drainage to wheeler lake high on the right. $20 bucks to the first guy on a 1200gs to send me a pic from there.
    20181019_113028.jpg

Hoosier pass is just above. Not sure if pic will show it but there has been people skiing the 300 ft hill behind the sign
    20181019_113258.jpg

Looking north to Summit county, there are more tracks on the shoulder on the Mountains.

I'll be heading into Summit County and in general i hate what has haopened to that place. Rates right up thete with Boulder in my mind. But I head to the hospital to see if my friend is around. Standby for scarry poster pic
    20181019_120914.jpg

So.....I was gonna park my bike on the helipad and send a pic to their boss but suddenly...
    20181019_121727.jpg
My friend comes out a little too happy to see me...he tells me there is a bad wreck just this side of Hoosier pass. Reports of a dead guy. I missed it by less then 10 minutes. So off goes the pumpkin. Sorry about the quality. I had it set for sms quality. Ooops

So we have lunch in the cafeteria, talk mountain EMS and I find out A-Basin is open. We share dreams of motorcycle rides (his daughter is going to college in Fairbanks next year). I head out to see another friend I haven't seen in years. She owns this lodge and is one of the best people in the world. This lodge has been in the family for generations. If your in summit county, you want to stay here. Since 1885. One of the last pieces of Colorado left in Summit Co.

Unfortunately she is not in and not at home. I was going to just jump on I70 to head home aince it had snowed the night before. Pic of greys and torreys from main street frisco
    20181019_134921.jpg

And some brose democrat pics back at Hoosier pass from I70. You can see why we are crying about water here. Dillon reservoir is very low after a nonexistent last winter. 20181019_135510.jpg

    And peak 1 through 10

So coming off of Hoosier was a bit cold in the shade, but just a little chill in the Toes. Weather is nice now and i decide to head for the pass after all. I love these signs. 20181019_141038.jpg

So as im taking the next pic dude on a susuki blows by with skiis on the back of his bike. You can barely see him... 20181019_141131.jpg

So i jump on bike and go catch up to him
    20181019_141937.jpg

And here we are at "The Legend" opening day and it is packed. I grew up here basically skiing free from the time i was 10 till i was 18. You can see the one run behind the liftline. In the Ski Patrol world this is known as the Ribbon Of Death. Everyone packed into 1 run going different speeds. Makes a motorcycle ride seems very very safe. They will have a couple ambulances today.

I chat up my new friend to find he has been living off his bike for at least a year. He is leaving next month for south america for 6 months. Doesn't know anyrhing about ADVrider.... He thinks he will have to go back to work after that. Im a bit jealous, but my time is coming soon enough.

So up to the top. Busy here. Find a stoner hanging with his dog. He has been boarding today dropping off the pass and hitching back up. I'm actually surprised the pass is totally skiied up. Beautiful dog I just have to talk to
    20181019_143216.jpg

Great dog! Gratutous pic of blue...
    20181019_143310.jpg

The guy on the right is dropping in and beats me down the pass.

So I drop down to Loveland. I patrolled here at some capacity for 20 years, October to May. Long cold winters. There is man here that has been skiing/patrolling here since the 60's. It a family affair for sure at Loveland. 20181019_144316.jpg They will open a day after A-basin.

So. Only one little piece of light slush on the way down the pass. I guess guanella pass will be OK. It is a very fun ride now that it is paved. And it is my most direct route home

So up the pass i go, no traffic. Corners are full of dirt on the north side so a rider is good to be cautious. On the way down, a Harley comes by me with a sign language slow down ice ahead motion. There was about 10, 200-300 yard sections of packed anow and some very sneaky ice. Disguised as wet road. Slipped a little once, tighten up my sphincter, and made it up. No pics as I was a little preoccupied.

But, i hit timberline and the road is dry.
Mt. BEER STAT! Right over this Mt is Abyss lake. Spent many invredicle nights there.
    20181019_152351.jpg

North looking back at georgetown. Did i mention there is a great brewery in Georgetown????
    20181019_152403.jpg

Looking west by SW towards the famous red cone pass (cant actually see it from here) a guy used to be able to ride single track to red cone pass from here.

So the south side of this pass is all new pavement. Lotsa curves and no cars today. Couldnt make my self stop for any pics. It was very nice (and dry). I dropped down to 285 and swing into Baileys finest establishment. Mad Jacks brewery.

    20181019_161101.jpg

I hang out with Jack for 30 mins and head out to wash the bike. Home is 2 miles away.

I hoped you enjoyed my last ride of "the passes" for the year. It was a splendid day!!!!

Beautiful photos; man, I love that state. I was just out there in June on the Super Tenere, and it was hot as hell...even the top of Pike's Peak was in the low 50's. Monarch Pass was a bit nippy, but nothing like it was when I was there in June '09, and got snowed on....

Thanks for the great report... and memories. I grew up in Conifer back when 285 was a two lane road and you knew most everybody on it... and they all waved. Many adventures in that country.
    Cheers, John
