Yep, check every 10 kilometers, don't think so. I usually see which way they trend and go wider on the closing ones. In practice most 'clearance values' stabilise during/after run in.
Hydraulic lifters run at basically zero until they don't. Change oil as often as you like, check valve clearance if noisy. Who cares what the 'book' says, in time both of you will synch.

The digital download manuals are cheaper than the printed version. Love it that I can print relacement pages and cram the whole series in a phone or tablet.

What's all this about? Doing track days on the Himalayan? ;)
Or maybe an MSF off-road riding class? (I took one of those several years ago at Road America....)

I had to check RA’s event schedule, looks like a fun time this weekend. I bet the Himalayan will get some puzzled looks.

That was the quote from Nick's post #7 on this thread, back in September.

Did a 176 mile dual sport ride North of Corinth Ms. Once again Sherpa willingly does it job. Kept up with the KTM crowd though usually in the back of the group. Don't know what it was but some how eating RE dust is unacceptable to KTM riders. Beautiful countryside.

With gas prices a little higher than normal, it is a very good thing that the Himma is happy on 87 octane regular!!

I didn’t see but was told someone was present on a borrowed black one. My buddy is certain he saw a white one that wasn’t mine....with Waterproof bags.

    Cannonshot??

My gas pump photo didn’t show the LED prices but Track gas is $9.75/gal

Kind of hard to get wet in NE Georgia since I'm riding home today [emoji16]. I've been putting some highway miles on this bike and can sum up the experience in one word, RELAXED. I'm totally happy with putting the throttle lock on at 5000 rpms and crusing at 62 for hour after hour.

Swapped the mirrors out for a set of Double-Takes, big improvement - no more fuzzy images.
Just got back from Dirt Daze rally in Lake Luzerne - the bike performed flawlessly.

I'm pretty sure it was Nathanthepostman said Himalyans a 50/50 bike. It's true.

Never rode a bike equally as competent at carving corners and climbing ridges right off the show room floor like this. No major upgrades needed, farkle to taste and your done.

Bit of a haul. Much highway riding or were you able to stick to backroads?

Nah mate - I haul my 6x12 enclosed trailer whenever I have to camp, even if it's only a couple hours away.
Spent a couple long days in the saddle doing a guided run into Vermont with the Moto Vermont gang, and another day following gps tracks.
I think the Himalayan made a good impression on the ADV crowd.

Had my first experience dual sport riding at an event south of Cohocton, NY. 165 miles of wet and winding trails! 250 miles total roundtrip from home. Hit the 1000 mile mark on the odo on the way home. "Thrills in the Hills" run by the Wayne County MC (which incidentally is "one of the 10 oldest motorcycle clubs in the US, founded in 1928" - interesting club history!). Almost made it south enough to hit the northern PA border I think. Good mix of riders - the big ADV bikes and enduro bikes but also a Ural gearUp Sportsman, my Himalayan and a couple of awesome vintage BSA scramblers. Rookie mistake - dumped the bike at zero speed on a steep descent. Broke a turn light and looks like it bent the handlebar just a wee bit. :shog Could've been worse but the experience was worth it. An experienced Ural rider took me under his wing and I fun chasing him all over the dirt. Good thing I got the tipover out of the way early because once the rain started, the trails got a whole lot more slippery. Newfound respect and admiration for all you dirt, trail and enduro riders...not as easy as it looks! :knary

Question: how do you guys get the bike clean after this sort of riding? Hosed it down with a garden hose but still a lot of grit stuck in the chain and innards. Will go at it with a brush, soap, water ,chain cleaner and wax later this evening.

Simple green and a several types of brushes and rags. Once any bike heads into the dirt there is always some dirt to be found in the crevices.
