I saw a Himalayan in action on the weekend.

Put it this way, If KTM didnt exist yet, and we were all living back in the early 1900's they would be a grouse bike.

If you havent tasted chocolate - Carob might be just fine.

There have been a couple of Himalayan'a come on the various training days and beginner rides and I've actually been quite impressed.
Heavy and clunky, but they crash well and are easy to fix and bend back into shape.
The ones I've seen have gone everywhere the tigers and big Beemers have gone and they cost bugger all for what you get. You could buy one, destroy it and buy another and still be in pocket over most other adventure bikes.
Long term reliability is still to be seen but the one I rode was a good thing.

Suzuki make something quite good, and quite cheap for what you're getting.

So does Kawasaki. And it's already got a reasonable seat, fairing, and largish tank. All you need is a milkcrate and you're set.

I also test rode a couple of different models, and took my 30 year old son along with me to garner his views.

I think the word underwhelmed would be quite the understatement.

I honestly felt scared - the bloody things don't have enough power to get out of their own way. The only other bike I've said that about is a postie.

It's difficult to find good, in-depth, impartial comparos in Australian moto-journalism.

You have to look overseas for the real quality stuff.

I saw one up close the other day.
Words that immediately came to mind included clunky, agricultural, wallowy.
How can something look brand new yet outdated at the same time?
Each to their own though, if it floats yer boat, sail away.

That's me sailing away. I've seen and smelt more of Australia and chatted with the loveliest of people in the past year or so while traveling on Winnie(2016 classic 350 Royal Enfield) than I've ever done. All the best

The 650 twin is only 50bhp--are they bolting two of them together to make a 100bhp 1300?
