The 'base map' is OSM data?
If it is then you can add the tracks you see in Bing imagery to OSM itself - so you won't need to open the Bing imagery. Saves that step and usually the base map is clearer. If the imagery is not Bing .. then it will depend on if that data is available (legally) to OSM.

How long your 'base Map' takes to update to the new data depends on the app your using. If OSMand then 1 to 2 months and the data you enter into OSM should appear.

All Garmin GPS's that I've had over the years batteries only last a few minutes on full charge.

    Question?

Android phone app for GeoPDF (map) files?
Avenza is one that does it .. any better? The free version is limited to 3 maps.
    oruxmaps is another...
    Locus is another ...

    Note:
NSW has free GeoPDF maps available .. limit is 6? downloads per day.
Queensland is another for free GeoPDFs.

    I may try oruxmaps..

I'm quite sure Locus still won't read GeoPDF, but Oruxmaps mentions some ability to do so? I stick with Locus for all the other features it has, so convert non native maps to tile formats that store as Sqlite. I havent used Oruxmaps for years but would use it again in a flash if I couldnt get my maps to work in Locus.

Day 20, phone just on standby with OSMand loaded fullscreen when it starts up, 21% after a ride this arvo that included a couple of photo stops where OSM redrew the map to the current location.
