That is a Bull snake, not venomous, they will kill a rattlesnake, they also will imitate a rattlesnake. Stepped on a big one once, had to get new shorts!

So how do they kill a rattler?

"Imitate" as in coil up and strike?

    Any info would be appreciated

    Bullsnakes are constrictors.

From what I have read is that they kill the young, not eat the eggs, because Rattlers have live birth with the eggs hatching inside. My Great Grandfather said he watched every year when they had the babies the bullsnakes would be around the dens. Then later they would not be. I have never seen it. I do know that the adults have no issues with each other and den up in the winter together. Imitate is coiling and a fake strike if cornered.

Always wanted to just lay in the field on the shelf going to Echo Park...so I did. Heard James Adams and Sidekick pass me...they should have stopped and enjoy the silence...

Dang, Jim. I've taken plenty of tumbles-some spectacular-but never busted a helmet that needed Gorilla Tape.

My tumble didn't require Gorilla Tape, but I'll find out tomorrow if it'll need surgery. Still, I think I am in less pain than Jim.
