First, sorry you had a negative experience at SDAR. As Ken mentioned, the Prez is often traveling. I've now seen your posts there, and we all welcome your participation, thanks for joining us, and we shall endeavor to make new signups easier in the future. The delay in signup is embarrassing to our SDAR community.

About Dulzura/Otay- this somewhere I travel several times a year- I'm not as familiar as some folks. But last time I road there, the Border Patrol told me there was no way from the hwy 94 side to the Otay/border side of those mountains.

I've never actually experienced a locked gate, but BP turned me around when I was 3/4 of the way to Hwy 94 from the Otay side. Maybe there is a way- I just don't know what it is.

It is an interesting place to ride:

all: I forwarded this link to Randy (sdar prez) with some suggestions for improving the process

as far as SDAR being a KTM site... while the pumpkin feel HAS increased over the years, rarely do we have more KTMs on a ride than other brands... especially at the end of the ride :evil

X country- that looks like a nice route- as trophyhunter (and others) have said- a lot of us ride those vary same roads and trails on a consistent basis- let us know next time you are doing the ride, and we'll get a good group together

are you talking about Otay Mountain Truck Trail? 32.654768,-116.807084 to 32.582331,-116.913514???

I ride the otay side and i've never been turned around or discouraged. It's all good.

Otay Mountan Truck Trail goes all the way through i just rode it a couple weeks ago. The picture you shown is along the border fence and not a part of this route. Should it be?

If you like epileptic seizures! :eek1 :lol3

Last time I rode along the fence the sun was just in the right place, shining through the slats in a perfect pattern . . . it was so mesmerizing I almost crashed twice. :lol3

Actually, it's a really cool trail and fun to ride.

Orriflame Canyon is the most technical piece of the route. Here's some pictures to give you an Idea of what its like.

Yes- it's one of my favorite rides in the county.

But again, the access is grey. I've had days where it was clear sailing right through, days where I was warned it was not OK, and days where I was turned around and told to leave.

Jurisdiction of the area is also in a grey area- could be BLM, could be BP, Water Authority, etc. I have a very simple way of deciding who's right in these situations- the person with the gun always wins.

A few weeks ago when I was shooed off, I was also told I could not exit via Marron Valley Road.

Everyone's experience differs on that stretch of roads. So far, each encounter with law enforcement has been very professional.

But if you enter the area with the intent of using it to get through to the other side, there may be differing opinions.

Fantastic route! I have explored most of the North County sections, but I would love to try some of the southern parts. I'm definitely in for a weekend ride.

anyone up for some midweek dual sport rides? I ride a 1200gs and I'm fairly new to dirt, been riding solo on Nate Harrison Grade, Black Canyon, Boulder Creek, and Otay Truck Trail. Also did Fred Canyon solo, was a bit nervous on that one being out there solo. I'm also looking for input on some simple fire roads or trails that are not too extreme for a noob on a big bike.
