I havnt measured the distance in miles between the gas stops but they are plotted on the dualsportmap.com map. The longest piece is going to be between the fuel up at the santa ysabel on day one and Julian after Oriflamme the next morning.

The truck trail is a sharp turn off black canyon road a few hundred yards before the bridge following the route. Its easy to miss. It small double track not a major road. Think 4x4 road. This is the last segment for me to scout.

Santa Ysabel TT isn't bad if you're not loaded down. A word of caution, the gate just east of the Black Mountain trail junction is often closed in the winter and wet weather. I find the trail to be easier when traveling west-to-east.

I'm in for the Feb. trip. Is late January out?

Black Mountain Truck Trail actually has some very challenging sections for big bikes and it's a dead end. I'm no off road expert but my personal record for dropping my GS was achieved on Black Mountain Truck Trail...I think it was five drops in less than a mile, granted three of those drops were on a tight turn around on a dead end spur. I think you mean Black Canyon Rd, which is a blast on a big bike.

Feb 18-19? Some riders will also have that Monday off (President's Day).

Either choice -- Blair Valley or Butterfield Ranch -- is good for camping.

    Thanks.

Hmmm, I'm not sure the Mrs. would be thrilled with me taking off for the extended Valentine's weekend.

Anyone up for January 28th and 29th, weather permitting?

Nice thing about Buttrrsfield is you can have campfires. Also yes not the black mountian truck trail just continue on black mountian rd after the bridge to 76.

    Hey guys,
Sorry for the thread jack but I'm in San Diego and starting to look for mostly road oriented ADV bike and loved the look of this ride. Would a WeeStrom be able to handle these roads? Now I wouldn't expect to be able to keep up with these much more dirt oriented bikes, but that looks like the type of riding I had in mind when I first considered switching bikes (currently on a k3SV650S). So whaddaya think? Thanks fellas.

XCRider, thanks for putting this info together. I was working on the same thing, but I only had Nate Harrison and Black Canyon figured out. Whether I join the group ride or not, I will explore these routes for sure.

Yenool, I swapped my XChallenge for an F650GS twin a while back. The Wee has about the same street/dirt profile as my little beemer twin. Nate Harrison and Black Canyon are great for the bigger bikes. If XCRider says the rest of the route is in the same category, then you should have no problem.

    Oriflamme canyon is more difficult.

My buddy rides a vstrom cool ride but has dirt limitations. Make sure you look at the Triumph Tiger 800 XC or a BMW F800GS. The vstrom will do fine on most of the route but will have trouble on oriflamme canyon.

Thanks guys. It's great to have the opinion of locals who ride these trails I'd actually have access to. Hopefully by March/ April I'll be able to join on one of these.
The price and maintenance made the wee attractive over those euro bikes but the tiger esp still interests me.

I think I missed something, and this ride (or part(s) of it) are on my wishful agenda for this weekend.

What did you have in mind for Palomar? I see Nate Harrison Grade and the East Grad, but not how it connects with the rest of the route.

    I must be missing it.

Did you intend for the route to up east grade, down Harrison, then reverse?

Thanks- looks like a good ride. I've been on all (I think) of the pieces, but not the loop.
