I recently stumbled across the website klimclearance.com. With prices obviously too low to be real, I decided to dig a little deeper. I couldn't find any addresses or phone numbers anywhere on the site, so I contacted them via their "Contact Us" page. I was skeptical that I would even hear anything back.

If you look around the site, they are all professionally done, are not full of typos, and really, the only thing I could (quickly) find fault with was that they didn't have any descriptions on anything, nor a single review. But if the site was brand new, that could still be legit. So, looking a little deeper, I saw that the website is not secure (https), yet has the "Safe Shopping" icon on every page. If you put something into the shopping cart, and take a look at the Checkout page, you'll also see the "SSL Secure" and "VeriSign Trusted" icons, as well as several other related ones, yet looking at the address bar in Chrome, it clearly states "Not secure", and that "You should not enter any sensitive information on this site ...". Doing a "whois" on the domain actually turns up the name Edward Warren from Dallas, TX, which surprised me (I was expecting something more like China or Russia to be honest).

I did actually hear back from someone this morning, with the email address "daisy@gaudinessshop.com". Googling that domain resulted in several posts about scams and fake websites.

So, buyer beware! IMHO, this website is Fake! I wish it wasn't though, as I could use some Klim gear at those prices!

    You're kidding, right?
I got on Klim's website and talked online to Julie:

JulieHello Charlie (redacted). How may I help you?

Charlie (redacted) are you guys affiliated with the site: klimclearance.com ?

Julie No, we sure aren't. I am not familiar with it.

Charlie (redacted) ok, just curious. It's a site offering your products at drastically reduced prices. It's probably a scam.

Julie Yes, I don't think I would order , unless you check into it more.

    Charlie (redacted) Thanks!

    Julie You're welcome!

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Charlie (redacted) 9:25 am ok. Have a great day, Julie!

    Julie You too! Thanks!

I would think that Klim would be having a lawyer look into this for a copyright suit. A cease and desist letter at the very least.

Those prices are very likable though.

It is also funny that everything is listed as 5,000 available/ in stock.

Good on you for checking with Klim and making them aware of it.

I would expect a Klim clearance URL to say "clearance.klim.com" or "klim.com/clearance", or otherwise be an associative name of "klim.com".

I hope the lawyer they hire is fluent in Russian or Chinese, since that's likely where the scammers are based.

I don't want to quote Schmokel's message for obvious reasons.

The address listed in Texas doesn't exist. The phone number is disconnected. The tech email address domain 163.com is in China. The DNS provider, dnsdun.com, is in China.

And best of all, despite the pretty picture that says SSL twice, [IMG] the checkout page is NOT SSL Encrypted.

What is the obvious reason not to quote it?

If I remember right, 163 is a popular legitimate email domain in China - but that'd be like saying it's registered to JohnDoe@yahoo.com. Not of much significance.

For what it's worth, someone shared a similar site here with the same question a few months ago, though I think it was a wider selection of brands. Shockingly cheap stuff, all the red flags in the world, alluding to themselves as an established business but no proof of actual store front, no mailing address, and no phone number to call. Nothing wrong with a web-only place, but it certainly didn't give confidence.

For the super-cheapskates, the interesting angle is that with so much stuff manufactured in china today, it's slightly possible someone is selling extra stock out the back door of the factory it's made in. Or fakes. This is probably a scam, but there is an alternate explanation.
    Why?

I didn't quote Shmokel's message because it is so LONG.

Buying "back door" gear is receiving stolen property.

@swimmer I hope you used a one time use # or something. Did you see my post where their checkout page is NOT ENCRYPTED. If this was JoMamma I would use more colorful language, but I will put it this way, you just stuck you credit cards tender bits into a glory hole the stretches from here to a back-room Chinese mafia bar in Shenzhen.
