okay, couple of things here. You cant compare apples to oranges. The older KTM was a sexy girl, but she kinda thick, especially when compared to the new Beta. That being said the 04-07 KTM seat is 8" wide while the new Beta seat is 7" wide.
We design the seats to the bike and the particular ergonomics of each model.
The other thing, well couple actually, with knowing the history of each bike, sometimes our seats are ordered softer or firmer than our standard density. And the density is different for each bike model to start with. We take in consideration the size of the seat and intended usage when determining the standard density for each particular model.
On to your question about the low seat, low seats have our firmest standard density ratios in general. Think of the thickness of the foam as suspension travel, the more travel the plusher it can be. On a soft and low seat, you will run the risk of compressing the foam to the point it statically bottoms out and the result is you feel like you are sitting on the frame rails.
The last think is that if the Beta is new, yes it will and should feel firmer than a well broken in saddle.

Ok, I'll get some seat time on the Beta before making a decision. The ktm seat broke in nicely and is super comfy.

I was going through your Beta options. I have the IMS tank on mine, do you offer the wider front IMS seat on the low height pan?

    Hey mxbundy:

I've got a brand new Ducati Scrambler in the driveway, and as you probably know, the stock seat SUCKS on these things. Like I can't ride for 25 miles without my ass being on fire.

So it's new seat time, and I've basically got it narrowed down to either you guys or Mustang. I like you guys because of the ability to waterproof the foam with a layer of plastic, but the Mustang seems cool too...

    So two questions:
    1) on your site, the black and brown covers are of different design. Is what's in the pictures what you get if you order black or brown, or can you interchange them?
    2) do you guys still offer discounts to inmates?

    Thanks!

Right now we only have the standard with the wide nose. each seat shape requires its own mold.

Yes, the seat cover designs are respective to the colors shown. The only variation is the brown seat can be done with a diamond pleat top design.
Sorry, but we stopped discounting a while ago.

On the black seat, there is an option for a single rib running lengthwise in the center of the seat, a Lambo seat was the inspiration for that one. This pic the rib is visable in the center of the seat.

Thanks for the answers. Now I just need to decide:
Brown or black on a red bike? I think black is the better color, but I really don't love that design.
    Hmmmm...

    Quick question on KTM seats for @mxbundy (or anyone);

A friend is swapping a tall seat concepts seat for a regular height on his 2013 500 XCW; I have a 2015 350 XCFW and am pretty sure the seat pans swap, but the website states that there is a different foam/cover kit. How big is the difference? Would a 2013 seat kit work on my 2015 at all or no?

If you are swapping complete seats, they will interchange no problem. The difference only come into play if you are changing just the foam. The newer seats have a recess in them the earlier ones do not.

    Thanks
