Hey Perry, timely post. Was thinking about the need to get up into the land of big trees ... maybe this weekend.

Bike of the year in 2016? Yes, I have to agree with Jimmy Lewis. It's that good.
It's a street bike, trail bike and a motocross bike all in one...

Any of you knowledgeable Sierra folks, are there any access points from near Olancha or Lone Pine to get up into the Sierras?

I want to get back out there for a day ride soon, leaving early from Las Vegas.

I would be cutting through Death Valley to get there and I'd like to be able to ride up through Kennedy Meadows area and go north for a few hours and then cut back east to the 395 and head back to Vegas the same day.

My typical ride is 15 to 20 hours out and back the same day.

    Riding a Super Tenere.

Would love to cut through the mountains off road by Lone Pine to get up into the Sequoias and ride around and come back, on a loop if possible.

    Thanks for any insight.

Take 9 mile canyon rd up and over Sherman pass and on to Kernville, from Kernville you can take the 178 east back to the desert. The only other option is Tioga pass through Yosemite then south to Porterville and then east over Sherman pass...
    Have a great ride!

I have done the Kernville to 9 mile Canyon. Loved the ride but was looking at something going north from Sherman Pass and looping around.

If there is offroading not too crazy, I am up for that. Actually that is what I am looking for. Some mountain pass roads or trails that an advanced rider on a big bike can deal with are more than welcome. Doing 600+ mile days I don't want to get into anything that would leave me in the position of not being able to get back.

seems like it could be done, but 9 Mile is the only way in on a motorized vehicle.
i've spent some considerable time looking over Google Earth and there are plenty of hiking trails up and over from Owens Valley, but none for us.:cry

There used to be two trails out of Monache Mdw. but those were closed off years ago. One went down the south fork and across Dutch Jhon Flat Crossing. The other I think was jeepable and went over just south of Olancha Peak.
