Really funny to have 3 things in one post.

First, I have been called nuts over 5 times in the past few days by different people.

Hop-Sing Knocking pecans out of his tree last Friday.
Nuts , I tell you. rope is for weenies.

Bears, it always comes up. I try to bite my tongue but word gets out.
I have had to produce pictures for my sons Kindergarten teacher after she called and told me he was telling lies to his classmates.
And May I leave it at that.

Across the Tracks, I have had Wanderlust forever, started this at 14 and still have "IT"

And then the Place in Black butte. Not mine, but I am welcome due to a life long "Habit"

Redding Dirt Riders, O.K. fine. But I don't ride a "Dirt bike".
I ride a street legal bike that only goes in the truck if its broken.
I only ride OHV parks when competing on my Trials bike.

Not in shasta/trinity, but close. Spend a lot of time on the trinity river in the late summer/fall searching for steelhead. Looking to improve my dirt skills but not much track over here on the coast. Lots of dirt roads, though. Wanting to head that way to ride some trails.

Or should I say "have dual sport, willing to travel". :lol3

Anyone up for a dualsport ride 3/15-3/16? Weather is looking good, redding forecast sunny and 75. I finish my civic duty on that friday and am in search of some good track for the 350, not much here on the coast.

Let's check back on Wednesday of that week see what the weather is like... it's a little too far out to make a prediction this far in advance.

Looks good. Have any rides in mind? Little frosty in the am...

Sims? Hyampom? Indian Valley? Showers Pass?

Hyampom is the only name that I would be familiar with in that list, but Ive done brair rd, kneeland, snow camp, and bald hills. Haven't ridden anything south of 36 and east of 101, mostly head out 299. To tell you the truth I'm down for anything with dirt, if there might be some single track somewhere along the route the better. Originally I was thinking throw the 350 on the back of the rv and head to redding for 2 days and a night where its warm, but I am unfamiliar with good areas to ride that way, but I know theres some single track at the ohv park. Its beautifull on the coast today but cold and windy on berry summit.

Could do Mtn. View Ranch / Showers Pass / Redwood House Road on Saturday... or ... Sunday for a bigger dual-sport ride... Shelter Cove, Zenia or other points south.

Saturday Mtn View/Showers pass would be best for a KTM 350.

I know where the single track trails are... but I usually don't ride them.
These days I mostly ride dual sport... back roads, USFS Roads, dirt county roads.

Far West MC in Eureka has lots of single-track guys.

Either works for me. Are you on the 250 or the 500? Wherabouts is mtn view/showers pass? I know zenia and shelter cove, but have never ridden to either.

If we ride Mtn. View/Showers Pass I'll take the KTM500.
12 miles to dirt, 50 miles (or so) of dirt then 12 miles home.

For Sunday I'll take the WR250R, much better on the roads.
The KTM tires me out in about 100 miles (IMHO: lots of vibes).

In summer we often ride 250-400 (or more) miles in a day.
    Pavement, dirt, pavement.

I finally figured out where showers pass is, looks good. Ridden past it numerous times. Traction should be excellent. Where do you want to meet up? I csn guesstimate your location, ill be heading from macville so there will be some pavement to get to the start, but can take the back way home. Name a place and time and ill be there.

    How about 9 am ?
The gravel parking lot across from the 'Freshwater Corners' store ?

Freshwater Corners is on the Old Arcata Road, right where the Freshwater (Kneeland road) comes in,
about 5 miles (or so) north from Eureka. Old store, been there a long time.

Gravel lot is just across from the store... on Freshwater road.
Should be an easy ride, if you haven't seen Showers Pass... it is great country.

Note that we have to stay on the county road... all of that country is private land... ranchers get ticked if you go off the road.

BTW? What fuel tank do you have, i.e. what sort of range do you have?

If we go all the way to Hwy 36 and back, it's 12 miles up Kneeland, then about 35 miles... 35 miles back to Kneeland, and 12 miles down to get gas in Arcata.

I have the 20L tank, so easily 200-250 of exploring between tanks. Ive done kneeland road from freshwater to fickle (used to live up there), but never branched off the main road which I guess are jack shaw, showers pass, and mountain view road. 9 am, gravel lot, know the spot. Bring lunch i reckon?

Probably about a 4 hour ride... I guess.
    You will like those roads.

New to the area (Mad River) and looking for people to ride with. Riding a sprung KLR with good knobs and i'm not too bad a rider. In my mid 30's but ride with any age group, with the exception of gun-ho youngsters since i have no health insurance. Been exploring lake Ruth area lately. Running a garmin with 100k topo and excellent at navigation not to mention a highly tuned gut. Have a very loose schedule so hit me up any time.

Dang Wizz,,, that sounds fun, and I haven't ridden out there,,, but I've got an interview Thursday morn. I'm also thinking that yer looking for more of a trail/single track sesh (like you stated) AND I'd be jealous as hell watching you on your 350.
