I'm doing a 2.5 month ride in Australia followed by a month in New Zealand.

I've already bought a bike in Aus and am wondering if it makes any sense to ship the bike to NZ or is it better to sell it in Aus and buy again in NZ.

    Any input/experiences would be appreciated.

Unless youre seriously emotionally attached to it, dont ship it, flip it!!

Plus if you're not taking it home with you then you will (in general) have less trouble selling a bike bought in NZ than one imported from somewhere else.

Oodles of good used touring bikes on trademe.

To ship and clear into NZ will cost you North of $2000-Do as Old Beer says.

What they said. If you get lucky you may do it for less than $2K but probably not much less. Unlike Oz you can actually temporarily/permanently import a bike here relatively easily (an Oz bike should have all the correct lights etc) but you still have to pay the GST & dick around with inspections & paperwork plus the Tasman sea is about the most expensive bit of water in the world to get freight across.

If you find something on Trademe you like the look of, post up here, if it's near one of us we may be able to go check it out for ya.

    Cheers

Perhaps if you interested in a bike-swap arrangement, someone else may be looking for the same.....

Definitely would be interested in a bike swap for NZ, could either be the KLR650 in AUS or I have both a KLR650 and a Goldwing in Toronto Canada.

It would also be worthwhile to post on the AdvNZ forum. Lots of klr riders there.
