I've been wondering, as the memership grows, maybe it's time for ADVRider to have regional forums. I really like the international nature of the discussions on this board but on a number of occasions I've thought of posting information that would only be of interest to those in the Bay Area. I'm thinking of things likes poor conditions on local roads or upcoming unorganized rides.

    IMHO, nope

too much overhead for the bald one and crew. keep it simple.

when I see stuff on SF bay area rides or other areas I'm not near, I just ignore it. :nod

if I'm bored, I'll read it. ya gotta keep in mind there are some serious shit slingers that hang out here and even distant ride info can be entertaining :lol2

If you took all the people from every country outside the USA and gave each a house lot (75 x 100) they all would fit inside the state of Texas.

Then you quickly throw up a fence around the state to keep them in. Now we have the entire world to ride?

    Do I hear a second?

Perhaps that would be interesting as we approach 5K registered members. But now, I think it's premature. I enjoy reading, and sometimes commenting, on threads about rides coming together all over the world.

One of the nice things about the forum structure is that you can skip entire threads if you want to. Likewise, you can subscribe to threads that interest you.

Not that it wasn't a good idea, just that I don't particularly agree with it :):

Gee fellas - you act like they will be setup so that you can't go in there if you aren't from the region!:huh

I think BS is right - there is lots of clutter that could be organized so that regional interests would be easier to find and it would make the general forums cleaner as well.
Maybe a main forum called Regional Interest that would contain threads specifically targeted to geographical locales.
    Might be useful... :dunno

So what would go in there? Local rides? Local vendors? Local ride reports and pics, pics, pics? Local Jo Momma? Local GSpot and Kick-butt RT stuff? When would a local ride report "graduate" to the non-local ride forum? Ouch...it makes my head hurt.

    :rolleyes

No more difficult than keeping the forums straight as they are.
Ride reports are ride reports, Jo Momma is... well - that one is always being redefined - I move threads there from GSpot all the time.

Under the main forum title there is a spot for defining the forum itself. With a clear definition of WHY it's there, the confusion should be minimum.

It's a great idea. When one posts to THAT forum, it is specifically pointed to folks from whatever region one defines in THAT particular thread.
This won't stop ANYbody from reading, posting, or subscribing, but WILL take some of the clutter out of the rest of the forums.

Right now, there really isn't a place for us to do this - when trying to get the attention of local riders about something that only pertains to them, the lines of forum demarcation are fuzzy at best.

Why are you fighting this? What skin off of your back is it? If BS is willing to moderate it, how is it a burden on you or anybody?

Again, I ask. Why not?

I'm not fighting anything...I just think it's unnecessary fragmentation.

Remember: there are no stupid questions, only stupid people :doh
