    More from Wales:
4 mile bridge over the inland sea on Anglesey. The island off the north coast of Wales, the inland sea creates a small island off the north of Anglesey, which is now connected permenantly. Holyhead used to be an island with this being the bridge over the narrows, now a causeway with a culvert that roars through when the tide is either rising or falling.

I'm not sure that I've ever ridden it in that direction. I've always come down from Mt. Judea.

On the way to Wales, just into the county of Cheshire there is this big junction of two main canals that were the lifeblood of industrial England in the Victorian era. These were the super highways of their time, carrying goods around the country with just 1 horsepower in the form of a heavy horse such as a Clydesdale, Suffolk Punch or Shire, mostly Shires though, hauling the boat on the end of a warp. Once the boat was moving there was little strain on the horse and the warp would hang in a bow, so the horse was really only hauling the weight of the warp. Later steam and diesel took over from the horses, but on the sides of bridges like this, where the boats turned the corner, there are grooves cut into the stonework where the ropes chaffed the edge. I think the Canal bridges are quite picturesque.
