No I didn't stop at the Westport community store. Trust me, I don't have sky high standards or expectations. I have traveled a ton, and that restroom was horribly nasty. I told the camp host and he knew about it.
They also had karaoke until 10 pm that night which is okay if you're into that but I don't go that far off the path to listen to drunk people sing off key at the top of their lungs late at night. Add to that cars spinning donuts at 2am and the serenity factor goes down a bit.
The camp host admitted it was a common occurrence and added that most local people liked the fact that any law enforcement was over 2 hours away. They commonly go down to the boat launch and fire weapons late at night drunk off their asses.
    It is what it is.
And it's for sale. They are asking 2.5 mil for the campground.

Yep, that's the down side of camping at a lot of places. Primitive locations are tranquil, but no shower & toilet, after riding all day, can be over the top, while the rode is one's home.

Great RR oneway, I liked all the photos you took and rear tire updates along the way.

FYI I just bought 2 new rear tires for the KLR thru motorcycle superstore. They were the 140's instead of the normal 130's, however research showed they will fit and they were $65 each with free shipping. Couldn't pass it up.

I know you used the Mefo Explorers and that seemed to work out for you.

I was thinking about going with the Mitas E-07 because people were getting at least 9K miles out of them. I don't plan to load the bike heavy on the way.

I still have my front MEFO on the bikke. I think the 900+ miles on the dempster and all the chip seal up north took some life out of that back MEFO.
Plus the SHREK was loaded like a pack mule.
    But the MEFO's are pricey.

I found that set of Mitas on eBay for $229.00 so I will probably go with that. I think it will be a good combo for the ALCAN and the Dalton Hwy.

I'll be curious to know how they hold up, and how you load the bike as well

I'll be doing a test run in early March to Goodyear, AZ fully loaded for the trip and testing out the camping set-up.

I'll post pics for loaded and unloaded set-up. While I'm there - I'll be hitting Rudy's BBQ for some brisket and cream of corn.

I weighed the load I'll be taking at 146lbs (33.7lbs in each pannier) distributed on the bike plus 215lbs for rider with gear: total of 361lbs.....

Small world...Last year I rode my KLR from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Calgary through Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana.....I met Anthony at a wayside rest on Highway 200 in Montana....it would have been Saturday July 2nd.....Told me he takes off every year as soon as school ends. Seemed like a good guy.

    Regards,

    Rob

Wow, that is quite a coincidence!
I'm scheduled to be in Thunder Bay this year on a ride around Lake Superior. I'm thinking the dates are right around June 21st.

Riding Lake Superior solo? There are a few other inmates from Thunder Bay as well, but if you need anything, in or around Thunder Bay, let me know....message on here. I can offer a place to pitch the tent, laundry, hot shower, cold beer, barbecue etc etc. On Thursday June 22, I'm flying to Toronto for a few days, but before that I'll offer what I can. Keep in touch if you need anything.
