Cheers nicj, all the best to you too!
About to head to the shed to give it a good clean which normally means I spend the next couple of day after trying to find things!! I think we've all done that

image.jpeg image.jpeg Well got through Xmas and New year OK, hope everybody else did as well!
So my sidecar hub was machined at a "mates place" on his CNC, pretty happy with the end result, need to drill the spoke holes tommorow, then off to get some spokes soon after. Hopefully it will look the goods. Yah, then get stuck into the front end.

Standard 21" front and 17" rear and 17" rim off the rear of a DR650 with my own hub(as above). Tubes all round.
The main reason is I'm trying to keep costs down on the build and 21" tyres and tubes are/should be available in the outback etc. Hope it works I guess.
Still machining bits and I have returned to work after the Summer break, so it may slow a little bit but I must keep moving on the build. Hub, rim have now been polished, so off to the anodiser tommorow, then spoke it

I just converted over to 3 17” cast tubeless wheels off a Suzuki GS500.Pretty easy swap with a little fabrication.

Looks good, I just don't want a little front wheel and I like spoked wheels. That's just me

Y’all are my Sidecar heroes. Very cool builds!
Can any of you provide some insight on the upper front mount on a Gen 1 KLR650? How are you mounting to frame on upper right side behind faring, beneath the tank? Has anyone had success mountain with an over sized tank?
Trying to keep a velorex hack from folding in on itself. Everytime I get it to where I want, it slips in a few inches. Thanks for any pics, leads, or input!

    RedStar,
DMC sells the connections you need for the front upper strut mount for a KLR. I have one, it works great.
Don't know about it fitting an oversize fuel tank though. Ask them.

Did you you also purchase the subframe, or just the upper front mount? Do you know of anyone else that makes them and can share some ideas? I talked to DMC today. Researching around

Have any of y’all ever attempted to build a sidecar from the complete rear end of a Gen 1 klr650 frame/rolling chassis? Essentially cuttting off front half and mount to the frame?
Seems like a decent idea since the swing arm, suspension, brakes, lighting, wiring, mud guard, and ability to attach luggage is all there...

    Thanks BigFatAl,
I did talk to Claude a while back. He gave me great insight and let me know just how crappy these velorex mounts can be, but how to “fix” them. He also gave me the confidence that I can solve (most) of my problem with an upper front mount. Using solely the Velorex mounts currently. However, he said he didn’t want to just make a part and throw it my way and hope it works. He said he’d help if he could see it in person. I’m half a continent away so that probably won’t be happening. I want to get a DMC, but not sure how to make it work without having a stock tank...and they sure are pricey. If I could just see how they mounted I could wrap my head around it a bit better. Anyone have a pic?

Can you send a pic of where the upper front mount, mounts to frame beneath the tank? Would really appreciate it. Thanks for your insight.

I will take a pic of mine ( DMC) top mount on a stock tank and send it you.
ALSO my son works at DMC,if all you need is a top mount I can see if he can get me a deal on one and pass it on to you.
