    They last a long time. Typically, I get 5-8 winters out of a tire. I am making my own now with grip studs. When the tire gets rough, I can remove the studs and install in a new tire.

    This is how I been winter riding for 30+ years, 500 Cold Cutter studs self tapped front & rear, as long as you stay out of the rocks and stay off the pavement, I get several years of use out of this set-up for about 50.00 bucks and it works very well.

    We don’t get deep snow, so our studs hit the ground a lot. The carbide tips keep them from wearing out. They will even bite into rocks, asphalt and concrete. Crossing rail road tracks can break them and should be taken with caution.

    This single track here is not the usual stuff like I rode in the states... The trails here are usually walking paths used for transversing the provinces. There could have been some bike traffic on them but in lots of cases, not much. So bars and footpegs do not clear many things along the length of a trail.
