Hurricanes are a CroMag, Skibum tradition, doncha know.
yup, I'm all over it. Too bad Earle's been downgraded already
Hey Mike and all you crazies heading his way. Wondering if any is passing through Lab city. There is a RTW traveler there stuck with a bum starter. I think she's on a R80 GS. Heres the thread...
darn it, Jimmy just went through there a couple of days ago
I am crossposting from Tiffany's distress call in Old Skool (Edit: oops--Hardwaregrrl beat me to it):
many thanks for your advice and helpful comments, I just got to the city - bloody hell I thought, we have villages bigger than this in England. I think the population is about 2000!
Which means the sources of help will be somewhat limited.
I'll be looking up Mc Fadden (the local guy) whoever that is.
There is a chance that I can nurse Thelma through to the other side of Labrador and the ferry to Newfoundland, but I'd like to try and get it a bit sorted here, at the moment I dare not go too far from the road (not that it's much of a road) in case she won't start before the battery dies trying.
It's the whirring instead of firing noise.:eek1
Tom in Toronto knows the more technical description
Here's her thread:
Just thought she might benefit from the Collective Wisdom converging, like a hurricane, on Newfoundland.
Off to a soggy start, but spirits were not dampened!
The first contingent arrived at Mike B's (I will be Mike D, just to keep the confusion to a minimum) at around 4:00, in fairly heavy rain but nobody was complaining. It wasn't cold, anyway, though the fire in the woodstove in Mike B's garage was very welcome.
We told lies as the rain continued to pour down, and started to wonder where the crew who'd taken the Trailway might be.
Here's what the weather looked like.

The guys showed up later, with the stories of the railroad spike that delayed them. I'm sure you'll hear more on that from DancingBoy before long.
Stephanie and I were staying in a B & B in Hant's Harbour, 10 k away, so we left early, but I'm sure the party went on long into the night.
I hope that Earl guy decides to relax and you folks get to have a great time on the island.
Wishing I was there.
Oh man what a load of adventure so far just getting here. That railway spike and the incredible patch job that almost saved the day is a pretty good tale, we took a bunch of pictures and when we finally got back on the road headed to Skibum's (Mike B) the skies opend up and really let us have it. Hard driving rain for the last 50 miles or so.
And we're just getting started, the surf was quite good this afternoon and we got some great shots of Skibum's neighbors surfing. More exploring today.
Stay tuned for more stupid in the ride reports section.
It was really nice meeting you all! We had so much fun! Thanks for the good times!
Nice meeting you too, Amanda and Will.
Mike and Stephanie from Ottawa
tanks everyone for coming, pics will start showing up soon
There should be lots more pics:ddog
I would have loved to make a repeat, kinda funny how the hurricanes follow this rally. I'm sure rain or shine it was a great time.
we had great weather for riding John except the Thursday coming in. The hurricane amounted to nothing more than some wind for us. As for pics they'll be showing up pretty soon.
The ship's shaking as I write this at 4:30 am...
We had a great time at the Soiree, Mike, as we've told you before, many times. Our time on the Rock was fabulous! The people are friendly, generous and oh so funny. The scenery is awesome, the roads winding, what more could you ask for?
Stephanie and I got into Placentia hours early for the ferry so we checked out another lighthouse, and went on a quick tour to Ship Harbour.
Getting back to Placentia in time for a bite to eat before the ferry we spotted Gregster and Dancingboy at The Three Sisters Pub so we joined them.
After supper we took one last picture on the island.
Then, to cap this memorable holiday, when I was checking in to the ferry, they told me I was given a cabin! Wow!! We had been resigned to a sleepless night on cots but this was luxury!
We invited Greg and Nolan in to share with us, which they did. Nolan was asleep, snoring on one of the top bunks within an hour.
We had snuck a little Glenfiddich in and drank that as the ship took off, but we couldn't get Gregster to participate in that. I think he was still working on the residuals of your trip to Sin John's and the Soiree.
Anyway, it's been a fabulous holiday!
Anyone know if Cordless got sorted out?
Another great Soiree, yeah too bad you didn't get up for this one Throttlemeister, you were missed.
I was there in spirt, I should be making it back one day on a smaller bike for all the good RR stuff after I take care of some things, like leaving for SA finally
Good people up that way, got great memories. Can't believe no one posted a picture of Dildo town sign
BTW Need more pics Ron, Nolan, Greg, Mike, and everyone else
Was going to get one but then felt it was too obvious...
But I would have loved to get a pic of the "Dildo Exchange Centre" sign!
Sounds so unsanitary!
Never in my life have I travelled someplace where they had so many funny named towns as in NF. I had a discussion with someone last year about a number of towns that actually changed there names because of their more recent meanings, who knows how Dildo didn't change their's.
I remeber a lot of Heart's "This and That" named places on the Old Pelican pennisula.
I am going back one day for more, I LOVE it on that island.
Just for the sake of it:
Hearts Content, Hearts Desire, Little Hearts Ease.
Great time this year. Though I was plagued with a rear flat. It limited my riding a little. Good to see everyone, even the repeats.
Ride report is coming, gotta get cought up on work stuff first. Hopefully be able to work on it this weekend.
RE the Dildo sign, see here:
