here is a track from a ride I've done with a group of ADV'ers as well as with my dad. The ride starts in the Cheaha State (in eastern AL) and ends in Sylacauga. The track starts where the pavement ends. Also, the trail actually ends when the track hits hwy 148. The rest is just the way we went back. I wish I would've taken the camera because it's a great run. The first few miles have recently been grated and graveled but other than that it's just as is has always been.

That is a great ride. You should also go to the other end of the Skyline Drive. Take FS 500 all the way to Piedmont with other side routes on FS 548,540, and 553. There are some unmarked roads up there, too.

Hmm...I'll try that out. I am trying to get alot of practice with my GPS before the TAT in June. How long of a ride is that out to piedmont? Do you have a tracklog from that ride? Thanks again.

it's about 20-30 minutes outside of gadsden, 10-15 minutes outside of Jacksonville, which puts it about 30-ish minutes outside of anniston.

Let me know when you are going to try to ride it. I ma be interested in tagging along if you want company.

I gotta do some painting this weekend but maybe next week during the week sometime would work. I'll post here or in the southeast forum and let you know. I'll see if my dad wants to tag along as well.

The Forest Service map is a good way to plan a route through Talledega NF.

Alright. Just from matching maps on R&R up to Google Earth it looks like there are a good bit of roads up there. Might be a long day out there, haha. :deal

Sorry. I've already erased my tracklog from that ride. The roads are easy to follow on an Alabama atlas, though. I went 110 miles round trip from Anniston Target store. So it's not a long ride. There are a lot of closed roads as of 2weeks ago. They should open some of them up later .

What weekdays work well for you Mark? This sounds pretty interesting so I'd like to get out there and do some exploring next week.

Wow, my dad lives out there. If you look at the file I posted up at the top of this thread the track ends at his house.

I can't make it this friday, but next week (probably thursday) will work. I need to do some work on the bike and I need to use my dad's welder and he is down in Daytona this week and weekend.

I think I may head up there on the 12th and 13th with my old man. It looks like riding up to little river canyon from there would be a good weekend trip.
