I am planning to ride the entire SM500 sometime in September. Would love to have a few folks to ride with me. My plan is to start the route in Suches - TWOS is a great place to leave the truck. It does not matter to me which way round we take, but I do plan to camp at Iron Horse and at Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground. I will be riding my 500EXC. Anyone interested just give me a shout here, or on the Facebook page.

The guys over at KLR650.net have a Southeast Regional Rally Calendar which includes this ride and is coming up this Sept 20-22nd. They're planning to meet up at Iron Horse on Thurs. I'm going but will be trailering my bike up from Spring Hill Florida to TWoS then riding over to Stecoah. You'd be more than welcome to join in, ride with me over there. I've never done one of these rallies as I prefer solo or maybe a handful of buddies but I'm willing to check it out.

I'll be riding it Sept 2nd through the 5th-ish. I need to be back home the morning of the 5th. I will join the route near Ellijay. I'll be riding a 500 XCW (plated) and will avoid motels/hotels and designated campsites if possible. I prefer to wild camp. Looking at the gpx, I have probably already ridden most of these roads, I just didn't know they had a name! :lol3

Also, I am pretty near this route, so if someone is trailering in from a distance, I have an area to store a truck/trailer if needed.

Here are links to a couple of the videos I took on the SM500. Eight of us launched out of Two Wheels this past Sunday and six of us made it back on Tuesday. I rode a 1985 KLR600. We had so much rain; it rained at least half of every day; made for some real slippery track in some places. Irrespective, this is a very nice adventure track. I'd really like to thank those who put it together and keeping it up to date. Hopefully, I'll get to enjoy a drier version of it someday.

Just did the South East section today. Had a blast but my bash plate had some issues. Don't know how long this Rider was on there but found it at the crash site. IMG_20190903_204415206.jpg

Has anybody downloaded the track in Gaia? My iPhone isn’t recognizing it.

I know I'm gonna get ragged for this question, but weather-wise, is the spring or fall the best time to ride the 500?

Fall if you like cool and dry, spring if you like rain and humidity, your choice.:rilla

Lots more people on the roads in the fall though.
My vote would be after the leaves go brown- all the leaf peepers are gone. That is IF it hasn't become too cold to comfortably ride.

Keep in mind a few of the campgrounds close for winter. We caught one the last weekend it was open. That was November 11, 2017. Sorry, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the place.

They're free after they close, just sayin...

November can be a beautiful time to be outside in the south.
