Saw a bunch of riders this week. I camped at the Tallulah River Campground for some Trout fishing and pedal biking.

I just finished the Smokey 500 on Thursday riding clockwise from CMTCG
My third SM 500 trip but the first on the CRF450L.
Another great trip however I did have 2 issues:
The first was a tree down on W Cow Pen road between the Conasuga Lake campground road and Mill Creek Road

I was able to clear some of the lower, smaller limbs with a folding saw and push the bike through. It may be cleared by now.

The other place was just past waypoint 216 on Peavine Sneeds Creak Road
There were FS guys working there and had me go back to Ladd Springs road. From there I was able to get back to Hwy 64
    Took about 45 minutes.

    Other wise another awesome trip

That mound of dirt looks sort of permanent with straw covering.

    Yes it does
The FS guy also mentioned another road washout further down but I'm not sure where.
After looking at the tracks some more it might have been possible to take the Big Frog road (where it connects to Peavine Sneed Creek) on around to where it reconnects to Peavine road just past waypoint 215. That would be better than what I did if it is all open.

I wish; it'd be my next playground :)
From what I saw on a FB video post, they're waiting for a new culvert.

    Great meeting you at CMT.

The tree was removed, but the road block was still there..... there's a way through so. Gotta go between the two berms

For someone who has maybe 100 miles of gravel-road experience, how stupid would it be to jump in and try the SM500 on a R1200GS?

Take your time and have someone with you to help pick it up each time you drop it and you will be fine.

I live in Robbinsville and most likely will ride the route between Telico - Rville and 2WoS

A good suggestion to ride around it.

Sometimes on the 500 you find a stretch where they have applied a new layer of gravel. For some folks that stretch is a real pain in the Ass. I would not want to do it on a big bike like yours. My son rides a KTM 690 and he hates those sections. For the most part the sections are pretty good hardpack but you will encounter some deep gravel somewhere on the ride. Are you riding alone? Best have a riding partner.
