Been down many times but always rode my bike down and stayed at Motorcycle only campgrounds. This year I’m gonna trailer my WR down and looking for suggestions for a cool campground to base out of.... ANY suggestions?
Preferably on the NC side but open to all suggestions.

Hey. I’m looking for the same thing

new to the Johnson City area and looking to take my trailer somewhere and camp out of it.

I have a DR and BMW for street so location doesn’t matter.

We like Crawford's Campground near Murphy, NC. Excellent base camp location for riding in Western NC, eastern TN, and north GA.

I enjoy staying at Hunt's Lodge in Tellico Plains. I tented beside my truck, but they've also got cabins.

I usually stay at Punkin Center when I’m on the Tennessee side.

Hungry Mother State Park is right outside Marion, Va. at the base of RT16, AKA “the back of the dragon”. Great access to 58, 421, and more great roads than you can ride in a week. I’d match that area up with any other part of the SE Mountains.

Kirklands Creek Campground, Bryson City, NC. Tell'em the Tenere guys sent you. Awesome place, fun road in is a plus. New owner, Jason, has restored a hidden gem. Campsites are well appointed, bath house is kept very clean, laundry facilities, ice, and firewood available on site. We will return, and hopefully soon!

in that case....Mountain View Motorcycle Campground, Elk Park, NC. Don’t know that they have a website, but they are on Facebook. Friend did an off-road school there a couple of weeks ago and raved about the facilities and area.

I personally like Iron Horse MC Lodge over in Stecoah as a base camp because of the location and it has a restaurant. There is also The Kickstand right down the road also in Stecoah.
If your looking for more primitive try Deep Creek right outside of Bryson City or Smokemont just outside of Cherokee. Both are inside the GSMNP.
There is also Indian Boundry which is a Forest Service campground located up on the Cherahala Skyway and Tsali which is located on hwy 74 between Bryson City and Stecoah.
Over in Tellico there is also Cherahala Trails.
There are also a few campgrounds down in the Natahala Gorge near the Natahala Outdoor Center
If you are looking for dirt have you thought about riding the Smoky Mountain 500? It's a 3 day ride between Iron Horse, Cherahala Trails, and Two Wheels of Suches.
Tracks are over in the Navigation Forum.

I'll second Hunt's Lodge. Stayed there a few times. Owners are awesome, they can even help plan your ride. There option are so many options to ride nearby.

They do have pads for campers, I'm sure they would let you camp out of a trailer there.
