So I checked out the local XCountry on Saturday. Started, ran, shifted, and stopped fine on the test ride, but honestly it was a little rough around the edges, mis-matched touch up paint on the headlight trim and swingarm, scratches in the plastics, rusty hardware, etc. Maybe I'm being picky on a 10 year old bike, but I think at $4500 it was about $1k too high for the condition.

I'm looking at one - might buy it tomorrow
    • 18,500 miles
    • $4K
Photos look like it's a clean machine with after market shock - it's at the dealer

Yes - No - or Maybe?

    Thanks ;)

4K in Dollars seems not a bad price on its own. Depending on what kind of shock is on there it could be a good deal.

I payed 4k EURO for mine 9k km with the original garbage shock, and i think i payed another 4k EURO since then in accesories [suspension, front and rear, fairing, muffler, rack, tank]
So in my not so humble opinion is a very good price.

The paperwork is done (it's paid for) - but it's going to be in the BMW shop (where I bought it) until they perform the 18,000 mile service. Here's a photo of the suspension upgrades.

You got the Hyperpro bud ! Welcome to the club !
You might want to move the reservoir away from the exhaust though.

Just got home from the dealer!

Here she is next to my wife's TW200

This bike is really a hoot on the road

    Only problems thus far:
    • Front brake squeals REALLY LOUD just before I come to a complete stop
    • Slight backfire - almost not noticeable - when engine almost slows to idle
    • Rear turn signals held on with some sort of putty bull shit
    • Front brake line blocks speedometer
    • Tachometer is broken
Other than that, I really love this thing - oh and relax, I was just kidding about the tach (ha)

There might be a slight exhaust leak between the header and the muffler. Mine has that too but I have grown to like it.
One of my brakes squeals as well and every time I get off the bike when I get home I instantly forget that fact until I ride it again :lol3

Is there a PDF of the BMW owner's manual? I have searched and can't find one.

    Thanks
    :)

There is no PDF. There is however from time to time a CD that one can find on the internets that covers everything you may be looking for. Try searching for REPROM on this bike.

Tachometer is broken? You mean the speedometer? The X doesn't have a tachometer.

My brakes squeal as well. That's with new Brembo discs + pads up front. Hyperpro Bas had a solution that I forgot, something about 800GS discs with the rings of an 1200GS and some machining to make it fit. Looked like a lot of efforts to me. I don't call it squealing, I call it Akustisches Bremssignal System to warn others around me of my presence.

I finished washing the bike and wrapping the knee pads. It is a matte deep black wrapping foil. The yellow/black combination of the front fender now matches the yellow/black combination of the airbox cover. This is how the bike should've left the factory instead of the silver color.

According to the owner's manual I'm only supposed to use premium gas - is that correct?

Thanks everyone - especially CarstenB for the link to the PDF of the owners manual - very much appreciated
    :)
