I guess it depends on how much fun you want on those dirt rides, you could buy a relatively basic hard tail with cheap forks in the $2.5 k range , or spend a bit more and enjoy something like this https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/a/m...-bike-in-store-ready-for-test-rides/103101262

Orrr....if only there was a way to get it down from qld....you could take bulltown spurinto galbotville... https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/a/mountain-e-bikes/giant/qld/annerley/full-e-1-pro/103638774

( let us know if you want to try the giant)

I have a Merida big 9 29er hard tail it's kinda the base of the mid range bikes :

    Manitou fork -lockable fork
Sram nx cranks and 1*11 gear set
    Sweet rims

I think I paid $1300 ish and then to add to it I bought a nicer set of pedals and cleats

I'm currently looking for a commuter fixie so I can ride that instead of the mtb to work and just keep the mtb for trail riding

She's learning....a few weeks ago I posted a pic of my 13 yo stealing my bike through this section. We returned yesterday and she had been a bit more receptive to advice during the ride. Won't be much longer untill she's beating me through the technical sections

Visited You Yangs for the first time today with a bunch of older blokes who all used to race. Came away with the red dragon rampant on my left shin after a whoopsie on a rock garden. The fastest guy was riding a mid-1990s Specialized Stumpjumper with cantilever brakes and no suspension - goes to show that high-tech isn't everything. Eldest guy is over 70. 42km of glorious single track with a few short stretches on park access roads. Grins all round.

Stop putting oil on your tyres?

It'd help to know what you've run before and what you thought of them / what you're looking to improve (mostly so you can teach us )
