I’d rather have bottle in front of me instead of a frontal lobotomy :photog

    Section 4 half completed...

Made it to the Colosseum Mine... I don’t know why a rider would want to take a heavy bike up a steep rocky hill climb is beyond me :confused... It’s a long climb up there at that... Also dropped the bike again today in a gravel wash, I did not have enough forward momentum and the front wheel went sideways... speed really is your friend in deep sand and gravel... braaaapppppp....

better work on rock crawling and gravel wash skills, Section 4 has both...

I say half completed cuz’ by the time I came down the back side and into Shoshone for gas, it was already 1:30pm and the gps had me arriving at 5:30pm... with DST in effect it would be dark and I did not want to be on the trail after dark...

instead I chose to eat dinner by campfire in Furnace Creek...

I have already ridden Titus Canyon with the KLR and The Racetrack with the Duc.. I’ll be doing just Titus Canyon since I can’t do both due to limited fuel capacity... I’ll visit Aguereberry Point, the Charcoal Kilns, and Ballarat tomorrow...

    Section 5 modified completed...

I went to Rhyolite before hitting Titus Canyon this morning and met another inmate riding it... Matt, we leaped frogged each other for a while taking photos along the way then met up at Red Pass for a talk... it was nice meeting another inmate on the trail...

Some dufus decided to drive a Ford Shelby Mustang and punctured their oil pan coming down Red Pass. Lost all their oil. Have photos but on the camera... It must have been there awhile cuz’ other people were writing messages in the dust on the body...

    Also went to Auguereberry Point...

I ended my day with a steak dinner and getting Lobotomized at Panamint Springs...

That Mustang can probably be repaired on the trail with a piece of screen and either Liquid Aluminum or JB Weld. I've done it.

I hear ya’ but it still has to drive the rest of Titus Cayon...

As I was exiting Titus I saw a Ford Heavy Duty with a trailer headed for the exit of Titus because that trailer ain’t makin’ it going down Red Pass...

    Cerro Gordo Fail...

The day started out well enough getting up at 5:30am to catch the sunrise with my morning coffee at Panamint Spings...

    C7F11F2B-014E-436F-9530-79A500D60DE1.jpeg

The plan was to visit Cerro Gordo Mine... but instead of entering from the Keeler side, I had seen a trail from Saline Valley Rd to White Mountain Talc Rd and finally up to Cerro Gordo Rd.... WRONG! The first two trails were easy enough but Cerro Gordo Rd is more suited for a 4X4 or quad... I dropped the XT twice rock crawling trying to get up there. I was within 3.6 miles of Cerro Gordo but it was the worst - 30 degree incline on loose rock. I said no way and I was low on water so I headed back down towards Lone Pine...

lubin’ the chain for the next day in Lone Pine...

Currently I’m at the Hostel in Lone Pine so I can get laundry done and some good rest for the last two sections. I’ll be doing 7 and 8 together tomorrow then head back home...

Section 7 and 8 complete, the Southern CABDR is done and done...

the last of the CABDR dirt before the XT’s tires touches blacktop. I celebrated by calling Mrs. B8...

On my way back while refueling in Bishop, I noticed a leak by the rear swing arm. Looks like I blew out my rear monoshock, good thing I’m done...

Argh! I knew something just slipped by as I've been running around last few weeks.
Oh well. There is always 52. And a good one first weekend in December (that I will tackle completely unprepared).

I do find it fun to look back on old trip/build reports a few years later down the road. It's interesting to see how things progress not just only on your vehicle and setup (I'm coming from a 4x4 background), and where you've been, but also yourself as a person.

Looking forward to the rest of this CABDR report, as I'm starting to venture into life with two less wheels and less gear.
