I have it on the calendar, just stressing over getting there, hotels, etc, etc. I'm still working on it though! :)

Thanks Richard... I've been pressing my Mom for nine months to get her knee surgery out of the way... I'm just glad she's finally made the appointment.

On the bright side, the ride east will serve as a recce for areas that I want to explore in depth in the Texas Hill Country...

Have a good ride to Flatistan Rudy. I hope your Mom's surgery goes well. I understand the issues with aging parents as I am typing this from my dad's hospital room. Your parents are lucky to have someone willing and able to come and help.

It's probably a long shot but possibly I'll be able to ride south and meet up with you as you ride back home.

Have a good trip Rudy. Best wishes for your Mom's replacement and a speedy recovery. I have had both of my knees replaced one year apart in Sept. 2013 and Oct. 2014. Best thing health and comfort wise I ever did. In 2014 I bought my BMW 1 &1/2 weeks after my surgery and rode it Christmas Eve to try it out. I was still using a walker when my buddy and I went to get the bike.

    Thanks Dave...

Glad to hear the procedure isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m hoping for a speedy recovery as well, it'll give me more time to explore parts of Flatistan and the ride home. While I’m in Kissimmee, I think I'll ride to the Willaford Railroad Museum you recommended a while back...

Wishing you and the family well up there...

Both of my parents are gone now. Being there for your mom and Win there for his dad is priceless and means the world to them. I would ride down and buy you supper if I could. :dukegirl

    Thanks Eric...

I may find myself back in FL mid-Sept looking after my dad if my mom goes on a pilgrimage to Spain later in the year. If/when that happens, I may plan a ride afterwards from FL on US-1, then US-17 through GA and the Carolinas, US-13 through VA, and up to DE to my old stomping grounds in Long Island, NY... who knows...

Well throw me on the radar should you need a place to stay, good food and something cold to sip on.

    First ride of the year...

I left the house by 6 am at dawn’s early light. My destination for today was Las Cruces where I booked a room at the Days Inn for the evening. I ended up super slabbing it all the way with just gas n’ go, I wanted to make it in before nightfall so I wouldn’t have to mess with wildlife darting across the highway.

My plan is to make some miles for the first day since I was gaining a hour riding east. Tomorrow will be relatively shorter while making my way to Kerrville and the Texas Hill Country. I’m hoping to get in early enough to scout some backroads and visit some of the towns along the way... Once I leave Florida and head back west, I’ll be in “motography” mode...

I arrived at Kerrville, TX by late afternoon and I still had enough light to have a quick recon of Fredericksburg and Luckenbach...

Fredericksburg... the sign entering the town had Willkommen underneath... must have some German heritage behind it...
    1.jpg

even with the name Luckenbach... definitely German settlers back in the day...
    2.jpg

the Luckenbach Post Office... I definitely need to come back here with the camera...
    3.jpg

chasing the sun before she goes down... I saw half a dozen deer in a 5 mile stretch of Texas 16... I would not want to ride these roads at night... No Sir...
    4.jpg

Yup... that quick recon whet my appetite for the Texas Hill Country. I definitely need to do my homework in between my Mom's rehab sessions so I can make the most of my time when I come through on the way back. I may have to set a base of operations in Fredericksburg, the heart of Texas Hill Country, and do some day rides for a proper "motography"...

tomorrow I headed to Moss Point, MS for some more slabbing... Mom's surgery was bumped up to this Friday so no time to dilly dally...

I'll be in Kissimmee tomorrow taking care of business and doing some reading for the way back...
