:y0!I drove up to Mammoth Friday and back today. ADV bikes all over. Particularly the roads coming out of DV. You’re too late. The madness has begun. :y0!

    Pause Button for COVID-19 Pandemic...

I've decided to conduct a short pause for COVID-19 at least for the next few weeks... more to keep the family unit reassured than anything else, "happy wife, happy life..." This pause was prompted by how crazy things have gotten here in SoCal during the last week or so over COVID-19 anxieties... Case in point, take the simple everyday task of grocery shopping; people are freaking out buying disinfecting anything products (Purell, Clorox wipes, isopropyl alcohol...) poo paper, paper towels, water, at first... now, people have graduated to hoarding stuff leaving most of the shelves empty at most/if not all the grocery stores. I haven't visited Wally World lately but I imagine it's the same scenario...

By sheer luck... the B8 clan was able to stock up before all this craziness happened. The month I spent in Florida with my parents allowed Mrs. B8 and the kids to use up our pantry and households goods while I was gone. Couple that with getting our annual rewards check from COSTCO, we splurged when I got back... Mrs. B8 and I go out once a week just to maintain our supplies and have witnessed how things have worsened each week... Luckily we also have access to a commissary and an exchange but I'm sure that will go next...

Moreover, the San Diego Unified School District will close until the first week in April to prevent community spread...

COSTCO's shelves starting to empty out... really long lines, no carts available - people chasing down customers to get their carts leaving COSTCO, limiting Kirkland water to one case per member... and so on if you haven't been lately...
    1.jpeg

long lines at the local WinCo Foods - never seen this since they've opened in SoCal, they're usually open 24/7 but they will close from 12am - 5am to clean and restock... on top of that, WinCo will be limiting the number of customers that enter the store to prevent long lines inside...
    2.jpeg

shelves getting empty with the panic buying...
    3.jpeg

these are my supplies for COVID-19... :drink
    4.jpeg

I'm not falling for the COVID-19 hysteria, instead I'm posting this for posterity's sake so I can look back at this whole situation... just like how the B8 clan survived the "Great Sink Hole of 2019" last February... :lol3

Ohhh, BTW I ordered a 14 tooth front sprocket for the Honda Monkey from RMATV/MC, it's supposed to give the little 125 some low(er) end grunt and upping the top speed to about 63/65 mph... I'm not much concerned about the top speed since I'll be cruising between 50/55 mph by taking back roads... but I'd like to have some better grunt going up the hills or out on the trails...

be well and stay healthy... :pope

I heard there was some serious rain in Borrego and around. Some of the dirt roads in Ocotilla OHV are now a foot lower!

Where's this place you speak of?:baldy

I've made it down very very little since New Year's day, my wife has only been once.

    Hope you're doing ok Steve!!

Rudy, yep, SoCal is pretty off the rails right now. Shopping has become a contact sport.

I've not heard of that Steve... I checked their posts on facebook through last October and no mention of this event... the only thing hat I could find was this info on their parts.ca.gov site:

"Major geologic forces are at play at Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area which is caught in a tug-of-war along the boundary between the North American and Pacific Plates. As the Peninsular Ranges of southern California and Baja move to the northwest with the Pacific Plate, they pull apart and tear the plate boundary along the San Jacinto Fault and the Salton Trough."

I was talking to one of the mangers at WinCO Foods while we waited for him to let us in (five out - five in rule)... the bright side of all this panic buying is putting their sales in the black similar to holiday shopping during Thanksgiving/Christmas...

Meanwhile, the B8 clan will hunker down and exercise some social distancing to limit the possibility of community spread. This gives me an opportunity to wrench on the bikes, specially the XT since I have not touched it with the family cruise and cross-country travel the last few months... She needs some TLC with the leaks she developed on the CABDR.

Sam, a friend called yesterday from the RED EARTH CASINO, on the 86 at Salton city. He is RV ing and parked there cause it was pouring so hard. Later in the day he headed out in the jeep and went down to the 78, to Ocotilla and in on some dirt roads. If you know the area, Quarry rd is near the Ranger station, that was 1 of the places a flash flood ripped it up.
From there he headed to Borrego, and saw more rivers over roads. Report just earlier that there was 4 ft of water running over the S 22 at Font's point. I bet Split Mtn would look different too, if the storm was over there too.
Hope the virus slows down , I am with Rudy, everyone lay low to stop the spread.

Forgot to add, the Feds. don't want anyone to leave the country right now. I am feeling great, but the travel insurance is sky high until 6 months after my surgery, so 2 things won't let me go south this year.

That's gonna leave a mark. Hope Anza isn't camped down there.

With no sports left to watch , I better get a life. Blowing 30 mph all night and day up here, next week OK, gotta ride.

I hear ya on the weather! Cold cold cold. I'm 300 miles from home working and luckily below deck. Keeps me outta the cold. At home its snowing and blowing. And not to hijack Rudy's thread I'm gonna share my job today. New hoses and a detail job on this bad boy. Actually fun stuff! 9401257C-796E-44E4-AD97-409A824A0E9F.jpeg 016E176E-9B27-42BC-865A-52BC81EBFC0F.jpeg We are in the shipyard and this is 1 of 2. The other one is being replaced with a new one. Remember the turn-off to Font's Point? Last month we rode a mile or two up it for @West38Moto sand training. Yesterday is was almost rear axle deep on the GSA pretty much right from the start.
The rivers that the rains created left massive amounts of sand over the roads. Mostly bulldozed off by Sunday. It's quite a sight to see.

That's some deep sand out on Font's Point Wash! I tackled that with the KLR last year and the sand was giving me a workout getting up to Foint's Point... but then again I wasn't giving it enough throttle, using balance, weighing the pegs.... and most important; I wasn't relaxed having fun...

My rides are on hold for now until we turn the corner on this virus so I'm using this time to wrench on the bikes with periodic maintenance and inspection so they'll be in tip-top shape...

I saw that you cancelled the ride to Baja as well...
