Bueno! Good stuff. As I recall, that trail beat both of us up a little. I think we should return and kick it's arse as soon we get out of jail.

Concur... I'd like to tackle Mason Valley Truck Trail and Rodriguez Spur Truck Trail again...

I tried to go back a couple of times last year from the Banner Store side but the gate was always locked...

That doesn't look like the gate to Chariot canyon & Rodriquez that I take. The gate I take is across from the Banner store, and has a dummy lock on.
I remember the road up to the gate is about a 100 yds in and rather steep to park and open.

That's the gate Steve... see below...

street view from CA-78... the Banner Store is up the road on the left... to the right is the gravel trail that leads to the gate...

Ahh, always steeper than it looks! What did you think of my dummy lock comment?
Also, if you want a little less challenging way to Mason Valley, the enter point is off the S2 , called Oriflamme cyn.
We stayed to the left for Mason valley and found the CCC camp leftovers on a creek. Dead end, so back out. One of the turns goes to the Chariot cyn rd, which on a map may say Cal. hiking trail.

:thumb Yup... that's where we entered the trail from Agua Caliente County Park...

I was hoping to do the trail in reverse with the KLR but "no bueno" with the locked gate...

Looking down Oriflame canyon, Mason Valley TT I believe. A lot rockier than Rodriguez 2B675947-00DF-403E-83E7-93404CEE7A95.jpeg At the camp site 7435E703-37F5-41C4-BA97-B5D586D30606.jpeg Behind the camp site walking around. 9EE61CF2-18CE-4467-AA9F-33E66FD605C3.jpeg

Very cool, I never got any pics of that. Yes, Chariort is rocky, but in 2018 the lower part of Rod. was really washed out (below the Turkey Ranch). When were you last on it?

A year ago February, SDAR’s desert dash goes over Rodriguez, this is just before the summit. That’s me in the photo after picking up the bike for the third time. You probably can find some YouTube videos googling SDAR desert dash. First photos were from November 2017 28E9A1AD-3EFA-49F8-9533-68946D83075F.jpeg

That's nuts'. I was in Borrego for 2 months that year ,and the weather was crap, not warm like we are used too, and lot's
of WIND! Ask Black 8, he rolled in to ride with me, frozen stiff that morning, I forgot to offer him any coffee.
I never made it once to Julian for pie that year either, such a wass.
Hey, good for you guys that did the desert dash in that weather.
