Will do the next time I am headed down south...

this Monday I’m going up to Graystone Systems in Huntington Beach to get some banjo fittings and stainless steel hoses to remote my breather cap for the rear drive shaft - helps protect water from ingressing into the CARC and ruining the gear oil...

The wife & I had just passed through there before the hell broke loose. I was doing "the loop" Thursday(in the cage)5 to the 76, down to Borrego, up to Palm Desert, then home. We went through Bonsall about 1030am, with a stop at the 'church'(Pala Casino for lunch)left Pala about noon to head east when we kept passing dozens of west bound emergency vehicles, not knowing what was going on till later that evening.

This Santa Ana event is extreme & late. Usually late Sept through Nov is the S.A. season. More on the way, this week is looking still very dry and windy.

Hope all is well with you SD folks!! BTW, the desert was perfect on Thursday, a tad bit windy in Borrego, but manageable.

Looking forward to seeing your delayed desert excursion!

Road trip to Huntington Beach... (in hind sight, I should have taken the PCH for a more pleasurable ride :doh)
    Untitled.png

Here's the back story for this road trip. I needed to relocate the CARC breather from the swingarm to underneath the seat (one issues on this girl is the possibility of water intrusion into the shaft drive via the OEM breather) I tried to source the parts in local auto parts stores IOT find the pieces with no luck - so I went on eBay to search for the parts I needed. I came across Graystone Systems in Huntington Beach and called the owner to convey what I wanted to get done. Long story short I needed to put mileage on Mia anyway for the first service so a road trip up to Huntington Beach was born of necessity...

filling Mia's tank to manually calculate her gas mileage...

I took off around 8:30 this morning and it was clear sailing until I got up to San Juan Capistrano and traffic started to get congested...
    2.jpg

heading into Irvine and the 405 was no better, luckily the HOV lanes were clear...
    3.jpg

exited at Bolsa Ave and now just a matter of finding the place...
    4.jpg

got lost a couple of times in this industrial area... I can't wait to get my GPS bracket for Mia so I can get my TomTom Rider mounted...

finally arrived at Graystone System and met with Bill (the owner)...
    6.jpg

Bill's got a small operation and does his business mainly online with eBay or Amazon... needless to say he's got a lot of stock items if you needed custom hoses made to your specs...
    7.jpg

after some discussion - show and tell; I decided on a 40 inch AN-3 stainless steel braided PTFE hose with a 10mm banjo fitting and 10X1.5mm banjo bolt with crush washers... Bill making my hose for me...

I was about to leave the parking lot when I saw these beauties sitting out...
    11.jpg

couple of custom Cafe Racers by OCD Coachworks - I tried looking for the shop owner to talk about the bikes but they were elsewhere I guess... still nice though...

headed back down south on the 405 and a wave from a fellow rider... Nice!
    21.jpg

glad to see that they are finally widening the 405... and I get another wave...
    14.jpg

I decided to get off the freeway for a while and just take in the view by Las Pulgas...
    15.jpg

    a beautiful San Diego afternoon...

made it home with the breather kit and it didn't take me long to install...
    16a.jpg

new banjo fitting to relocate the breather under the seat...
    17.jpg

the new hose running on the left side and under the swingarm for a clean look, the rest of the hose is routed next to the snorkel and out of the way from possible water ingress...
    18.jpg

Moto Guzzi 8V engines also have a tendency to develop high-voltage shorts to the cylinder head covers - so the fix is to install these NGK spark plug caps... overall a good productive day for Mia...
    IMG_0097.jpg

I managed to get Mia another 134.1 miles today and used 3.10 gallons for an average of 43.25 mpg with highway speeds of 70/75 mph...

Not bad for a full figured girl weighing in at 600lbs with a full 8.5 gallon tank...

Mia's got 432 miles thus far so I need to get crackin' and wrack-up some more miles to get her first service done...

Very cool thread Rudy. Great photos. This makes me want to head down south and check out the Southern portion of our state. I ride and know Nor Cal well, but furthest S I've been is SB. Nice assortment of bikes you have.

Thanks BigDog, I love riding in and around San Diego and know just the right roads to avoid traffic on the interstates... I'd like to ride up north more with so much to see like Griffith Observatory, Little Tokyo, Hollywood, Santa Monica...et al but the traffic in LA is horrendous...

Thanks.... I tried to get out with San Diego Moto Campers for a ride and moto camping but the Bonsall fires put the kibosh on those plans...

I’m always up for meeting inmates and getting out for rides... am out of state right now visiting family for Christmas and will hit you up next year after things settle down...

Great thread. I really enjoy reading local ride areas from another perspective. I live in Escondido - stayed in SD after my 8 years in the Corps so it was cool to see the KLR at MCRD. The MC is beautiful; almost makes me regret the the BMW GSA I bought last year...almost. :) Keep the reports coming and hope to see you on the road.

Count me in. I have one big ride on the calendar for the upcoming year - an IBA 49/10 with a North-South CDT as a chaser.

Just an update - I'm going on a multi-week ride and will be on the Epic Ride side for about a month or so and will not be posting in this thread for awhile...
