Given the right conditions, the Monkey is very frugal on gas... the hills affected my range - but the hills and headwind combined was worse...

Topanga Canyon is a nice little hidden gem... I just happen to see the twisties when I was google mapping my route along the PCH...

    ~ 5 June 2020

Plan for today was to continue north on the PCH...

No need to set an alarm since the birds were chirping and woke me up early at around 5:30 this morning. I peeked outside my tent only to find a heavy mist lingering around the campsite so I stuck my hand out only to feel the tiny droplets on my fingers. I said "screw that" and crawled back in my sleeping bag to see if it would lift... no such luck... About an hour later, I forced myself out of my warm bag to get myself cleaned up get ready for today's ride...

it's one of those June gloom days again along the coast...

my first stop was Morro Bay to see the famed Morro Rock; one of the state's historic landmark...

Ignore those highlighted routes, that was just something I did with a buddy one day,

The Malibu area is a day-full of fun Rudy!

...but you gotta be careful of what comes out of those hills,

I'll have to start venturing north and riding above LA... I've been reading up on NSFW and flying.moto day trips up in those hills... plus it will give me other destinations to explore...

Speaking of that, I was thinking of coming to see you either this week or the next and getting me a Hawaiian lunch plate...

The ride out to Morro Bay was just a short hop on the PCH and was a wet one... I had to change my calculations on the fly since I was expecting the usual California weather of sunny and 70 however, I was greeted with a marine layer. So I had to make some lemonade...

Arriving at Morro Bay reminded me of my time in Maine with its small fishing communities on the coast. The marine layer actual helped set the ambience with the wet streets, the smell of the sea air, and the fog horn blowing in the distance...

There is something to be said about riding an underpowered machine on such a ride... I made the right choice to take the Monkey instead of one of my other bikes for this adventure. It gives me an appreciation of riding slow to witness the splendor of the California coastline...

You’re using a Nikon D850? What lens did you bring?
Is ZUBB correct about Sealsam’s restaurant?

Just short of the Monterey County line, you start climbing up into the cliffs and the ride takes on a whole different tenor where the road serpentines hugging the cathedral fingers coming down from the mountains...

I took my D800 with a 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens so I wouldn't have to continually swap lenses... I used my tripod quite a bit during this trip...

Sam's the purveyor of Gardena Bowl just below LA...

I decided to turn around at Willow Creek Beach Day Use Area... I had a sliver of sunshine here and further north seemed to be covered in a heavy marine layer... Now I get to enjoy the same ride back to camp... :ricky
