for the ride home I decided to take CA 74 back over the mountains... if you haven't ridden CA 243 or the terminus of CA 74 over by the Palm Desert - you need to ride it just for the fun factor...

afterwards it was a relaxed ride through the Anza Valley as I dropped down into Temecula and home to Oceanside...

    until next time...

    Rudyt,

When you ride east to visit your family in FL, you have a garage, warm bed, thick steak and a cup of spirits waiting or ya in VA. ;)

Echo that! From my house I clocked right at 350 miles. Ended up going south to Mexicali after we split then west through Campo and the 94 home. Followed a nice feller on a spanky new K1600 from Campo to La Mesa and we railed the corners most of the way. Good stuff.
Thanks for the good times. We saw some very cool stuff.

    Desert Loop terminus...

I received a PM from inmate Zubb about my upcoming ride out to the Salton Sea to finish my desert loop... his 1150 GSA just had it's slave clutch fixed and Zubb wanted to take it for a long ride... I said "sure thing" - some company would be nice riding to Salvation Mountain since neither one of us had ever been there...

it was an early morning departing the house at 0530 with our rally point at Packards Coffee Shop in Ramona...

I arrived at Packards right at opening so I could get something hot to warm the body with that mid-50s ride to Ramona...

Once in Borrego Springs we made our way to some of the welded Metal Sky Art Sculptures... in all there are over 130 sculptures spread across Borrego Springs: Metal Sky Art Sculptures

Over 100,000 gallons of paint was used to create Salvation Mountain: History

We walked around for a while just taking it all in... Slab City is filled with "desert art" and the people that live here are free spirited to say the least...

Part of the reason I retired in SoCal is the 364 day riding season...

I hate sand - the only way to get to these places is to go through it... with a little throttle and a relaxed grip, the KLR squirmed in the sand and I was through it...

after Slab City, Zubb and I worked our way to Brawley for lunch at Christine's Restaurant for some Carne Asada Burritos... we ate and did some jaw jackin' - before we knew it almost an hour and a half passed by... good times...

Zubb and I parted ways at Brawley since Zubb lives down south... I on the other hand wanted to hit some more dirt so I went back to CA 78 to the Ocotillo Wells SVRA...
    f.jpg

the KLR is like a pig wallowing in the dirt! that almost 500lbs of wet weight and anemic 34hp is not a good combination (at least not for my skill set)... I only lasted about 1/2 hour out in Ocotillo when I concluded I needed something lighter with more torque like say a KTM 450 or 500 EXC-F for a more dirt oriented specialty tool...
