    Hello!

My name is Gonçalo Mata, I'm portuguese, and 6 months ago I left Buenos Aires alone with my motorbike.

Now after nearly 40.000km I'm about to arrive at my final destination: NEW YORK CITY.
Pics and info of the big adventure in www.buenayork.com

I don't know anybody there, and I thought I could ask if someone would like to help me!

I would like to gather a little group of riders that can lead me from Newark to Central Park, so I arrive safely, and also not so lonely! :) I think it could be a nice summer ride, it will be a saturday, 18th August.

Do you know some motorbike rider in New York, or a club or just someone that cares to ride with me on this final moment of my biiiig trip?

Thank you so much for any possible help/tips.

You know, I'd like to do that. Newark is perhaps a 45 minute run from my house. If my work schedule (along with SWMBO's) allows it, I'd be happy to accompany you on the end of your heroic journey.

This sounds cool! Although the safety issue is more a problem in Newark than Manhattan I think :D

    Gonca,

Head down to Ferry street in Newark on Friday night. This part of town is mostly Portuguese business owners and residents. Walk into any bar or restaurant you see a bike outside TRY MMM Bello's on Ferry (there are bikes everywhere there in the summer), Strike up a conversation with the guy that owns the bike.

Manhatten is forty minutes away tops. Im sure you can get someone to ride in with ya.

Congrats on the completion of your trip.

Here's our listing on the tent space thread. PM if you need anything.

Suggestions: The best way to organize a ride from Newark to NYC is to be as specific as you can regarding the time and place you want to meet up. Perhaps someone more familiar with Newark can suggest a good meeting place (easy to find / park bikes / safe). Or are you staying somewhere specific in Newark? Then about a week or so before, bump this thread with the specific details. I guarantee you'll have a fully armed ADV escort into the city. :beer

If we like you, we may even swing by the Ear and treat you to a beer. :wink:Looks like you've been on a great trip. Looking forward to hearing stories from the road.

Hello everyone! Thank you for your kind comments, I'm starting to feel New York is going to be a friendly arriving point! :)

I think you are right about the need to provide the details, can you help me with chosing those?

Here is the plan with the pending variables:
    DATE - Saturday, 18th August
MEETING POINT: 14h30(?), in Newark - where exactly(?) airport, maybe(?)
15h00/15h10 - 16h30/17h00: the ride, maybe including a micro NY tour before reaching Central Park - exactly what entrance(?) what itinerary(?)
17h00 - maybe a cold beer to celebrate? where could that be(?)

Once again I kindly thank you for any possible help/tips on this mini-event.

I will most likely be out of town that weekend. Though if you spend a few days here, I'd love to buy you a beer.
I am not a Jersey expert, but I would recommend meeting somewhere west of Newark and Orange, maybe a highway rest area. Let's see if someone can come up with a better place.
But yeah ride through Newark, recently Dr. Rock and I rode through the streets and we came over a hill and got a cool view of NYC. Would make a real cool first view for you.

    Gonzalo,

Looks like you will be riding into NJ, why meet in Newark? Are you staying there a few nights? I can meet you in Newark and guide you into NYC, just give me an idea of your route or destination in Newark. As I mentioned in my previous post you are welcome to stay with us, we are 13 miles north of the city in a pretty quiet neighborhood.

    Carlos,

Fortunately I can read some portuguese and you are right, it's a fascinating trip. BTW, I'm headed to SPain next week and will be visiting Portugal, any recommendations?

Damned if I won't be driving (not riding) home from North Carolina that day. If you happen to show up a day late, I'm there for ya.
