As I close out on this thread, I just want to provide reflections on this journey. It’s great to be part of a community, which values immortalizing collective ideas. With each evolution, the CDR trip gets more and more refined and we all benefit. It’s actually impressive the ADV collective knowledge bank accrued to date. For example, Cannonshot was such an inspiration for us and I am sure he got some from Big Dogs and him from Adventure Cycling. In the end, innovation only works by giving back more than you take.

I was a bit surprised with all the folks in reading in the Trip Planning section, indicating that we should “just ride”. For some, trip planning is much like day dreaming an idle summer day away. It was most delightful to share with others as they too got inspiration, and providing them the inspiration and courage to do something probably larger than they would have completed solo. And for others, the forecasted breakdowns and detours make your journey exciting. In the end, find a way to surround yourself with like-minded folks, whom you share the same ideals. Ride your ride.

And no, Blaster and I didn’t need to plan for nearly 7 months. However, that is probably the greatest success of this thread. This thread is the second most viewed in Americas Trip Planning (albeit far, far behind) the most viewed “Is Mexico Safe”. Nearing 76,000 views, I applaud the lurkers among us. You are not invisible, and you too inspire for great journeys one day and may our paths cross.

So it sounds like several were doing a more serious pack out today...how did it go? I realized I had way too many t-shirts and socks packed so removing those gave me back some space. I am hoping to put the final touches on tomorrow and then go for a little test ride. Almost there!

Hey guys....if you don't mind please fill out the medical form and bring it with you on the trip. I would hate for something to happen and no one knows anything about you other than your screen name....like that would ever happen. :D

    Thanks!!!

Different people do things differently. Process people need to plan, whereas some can make up a plan as they go. As a result of the different people on the forum, you will get opposing answers by those who do things differently (if one feels similary to the OP...then why post?). The magic and zen of Myers-Briggs :)

Come on now! This is the longest thread:clap. The"is Mexico safe" turned into a sticky. That puts you on top.

Y'all have a great trip . Wishing you a safe and happy trip. There will be plenty of time to work on the commemorative stickers, mugs,t shirts and challenge coins after y'all get back. Don't forget the book and movie rights. Looking forward to the post and post-post SMARCDR threads as well. :freaky

Be well and post lots of pics.

Do you really think that is funny? Wishing another rider be broken down?

Jax...feel free to add your SPOT to the SPOTWALLA page if you like, no password required.

For you guys with SPOT that plan on using SPOT adventures to display your photos, you will need to set your camera to GPS time since your SPOT uses the time/date stamp of the photo for placement on the map. Otherwise your photos will be displayed in the wrong GPS location.

Best wishes all... I ended up hotel-ing it 2 miles from the sign. I crossed in Deming New Mexico (I-10) and Rawlins Wyoming (I-80).

I agree. I'm not saying either way is wrong, but if you read such threads like Cannonballs, you pretty much seen it all. Experiencing it isn't the hype you think it will be, etc. (From my experience with Baja, and following trip through Latin America - The later was much more impressive because of that)

I'm curious Dorito if you have a slight change of thought after that ride.... or if you pass me out of gas on the trail and laugh.... =)

Just a reminder to keep an eye out for two XRR's. Love to share stories with you guys.

We "depart" Phoenix July 5th. Run down to Silver City then north depending on the fires. For the first few days we might elect to ride dawn and dusk more then mid day. Maybe find a lake/stream or water hole to kill the heat.

    Good luck on the ride!

I second what Jack said, if Bruce had not started this I would be home in July mowing grass and pulling weeds in the garden instead.
